Ever vigilant Metal Gear Solid fans who were expecting quite the Christmas announcement from a livestream episode of “Kojima Station” a few days ago were in for quite the reveal from series creator Hideo Kojima himself, as the man behind Snake showed off something “new” for upcoming game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

No it’s not a stealth suit. And no, it has nothing to do with the release date of the game either. What Kojima showed off is Big Boss/ Venom Snake getting a brand new accessory should he die numerous times and be in need of a disguise… A “Chicken Hat”.

Yes, a silly “Chicken Hat” will become available for the greatest soldier to wear, especially for players who need to be less detectable by the enemy and get out of tight spots in the process. Upon dying or failing a mission several times, the game will prompt you with a choice if you want to accept the item, which will make Snake look like a man with a silly headpiece, but less conspicuous to guards and patrolmen if that made any sense. It also has some “special abilities”, but it will also make the soldier stand out during cutscenes… And not in a good way.

If you want to see the reveal for yourself, it happens after nearly three hours at the end of the Christmas Live Stream episode. Skip to 2:44:00 at the video to see Kojima doing his thing and revealing the “Snake Chicken Hat” for the world to see.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain hits Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC sometime in 2015.
