You Will Die in Dark Souls the Board Game

Dark Souls III for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC just hit gaming store shelves and digital download counters a few days ago, much to the delight of Dark Souls fans across the globe. While most of us head to friends’ houses or board game cafes to go analog and take break from the warm glow of our screens, it seems our friends from Steamforged Games don’t want us to forget that death could be right around the corner by starting a Kickstarter campaign for Dark Souls the Board Game.

We caught the news from VG24/7 on our feed this morning. They reported that the game had indeed been opened up to backers on Kickstarter with a goal of £50,000. Within minutes, fans of the series came out of the woodwork to show their approval and support to get them to that goal and beyond. Upon checking their page this morning, they currently have 4,127 backers and £328,211.

Quoting directly from the page, this is how Steamforged Games described Dark Souls the Board Game:

Dark Souls™ – The Board Game is a strategically challenging, deeply immersive combat exploration game for 1-4 players set in the Dark Souls™ universe. Players choose from a number of core character classes and explore dangerous locations full of monsters, treasures, and deadly boss fights.

Designed specifically for the Dark Souls™ universe and introducing a number of innovative gameplay mechanics, with world-class miniatures faithful to the rich universe, this game delivers an experience that captures the very essence of the original video games.

Personally, I have avoided the Souls series of games to avoid shedding man tears of frustration and possibly chucking a controller or two at the screen in fits of rage. The miniature renders and game mechanics, however, are too appealing to miss out on. Watch out for the occasional table flip though.

As always, we’ll try to get you guys a full review once Steamforged Games has it published and it arrives on our shores to kick us in the ass.
