The University of Santo Tomas is holding its freshman campus tour in Minecraft!

The University of Santo Tomas will hold a virtual campus tour for freshmen on August 28. Instead of just a video of the campus though, UST's freshmen campus tour is happening in a Minecraft server!

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, schools in the Philippines have shifted to online learning programs so that social distancing and quarantine protocols are followed. While this means students won’t be able to enjoy a traditional school life in 2020, certain institutions have gone above and beyond to bring the university experience online.

One such institution is the University of Santo Tomas. Because of the pandemic, new students won’t be able to experience the “Thomasian Welcome Walk,” a walking tour of the UST grounds. In light of this, UST has announced that it will hold a virtual freshmen tour of the campus; instead of being just a video walkthrough though, freshmen will be able to tour the UST campus in Minecraft!

Created by around 80 UST students, UST’s Minecraft server will feature a detailed recreation of the unversity’s campus, including its various iconic buildings and landmarks.

The “UST Minecraft Launch and Tour” will also stream tomorrow at 3pm via the UST Tiger TV Facebook page. The tour will feature representatives from different colleges/departments as they give freshmen the UST tour (albeit virtually). While the first tour starts tomorrow, it will continue on August 29-30, as well as September 5-6.

The UST Freshman tour in Minecraft is part of UST’s week-long “ROARientation” program,a  virtual orientation for new UST students. The program started last Monday, August 24, and featured daily programs that are made to ready freshmen for college life at UST.
