Beautiful, elegant, yet chock full of useful functions, is the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro the best smartwatch of 2020?

ONE Store Beta Now Available

Last year, Huawei launched the best iteration of their signature premium smartwatch, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro. Exhibiting a sense of style and hefty substance, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro improves on its predecessors and have created a sophisticated yet function-rich wear that’s more than ideal to help us through this “new normal” we’re living in.

Watch GT 2 Pro

Right off the bat, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is a gorgeous smartwatch. In fact, in a sea of Apple Watch-clones, the Huawei Watch GT stands out the most. It takes the idea of watch seriously and adopts a more traditional timepiece silhouette than a lot of activity bands. This focus is what elevates the Watch GT brand. And for the Huawei Watch GT 2 specifically, Huawei upped their game and introduced a lot of premium changes to make this iteration truly luxurious.

At 46mm, this large-faced timepiece is covered with scratch-resistant sapphire glass. A big jump from the normal mineral-glass that’s usually seen in past iterations and other smartwatches in this price-point.

Unlike its past iteration, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro sports a really thin bezel which are all under the sapphire glass. This gives an illusion that the watch seems bezel less. This simple and delicate design decision adds to the overall luxe feel of the Watch GT 2 Pro.

Additionally, Huawei decided to render the backside of the watch with ceramic – a valued practice in traditional watchmaking that gives the watch additional luster. And if that’s not enough, the entire body is cast in Titanium which reduces weight but makes the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro sturdier.

All in all, regardless of the strap that you got – whether it’s a matte dark charcoal rubber strap with black gunmetal clasps or the more traditional soft leatherette one, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is one of the best-looking smart watches currently in the market beating other smartwatches in its price category or even above it.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro combines all the best practices from the very first Huawei Watch GT. This means making sure that heart rate is constantly monitored for precise reading, giving you as much options as possible for various sports and workout activity that you choose (including but not limited to skiing, golfing and swimming). Whatever sport or workout mode you’re into, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro has over 100 workout modes available. In fact, even without setting, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro can automatically detect 6 workout modes: outdoor running, outdoor walking, indoor walking, indoor running, indoor elliptical, and rower.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro has a built-in altimeter as well so you can be aware of various air pressure conditions when you go hiking.

But perhaps, more than the numerous workout modes, the constant and accurate heartrate monitoring, and the watch face customization that you can choose from via the Huawei Health App, it’s the inclusion of the ever-important blood oxygen monitor that makes the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro an important piece of device during this trying times.

The Blood O2 monitor, checks levels of oxygen in your blood stream and according to various reports, Covid-19 affects your blood O2 especially on acute cases. Even if you’re not going to be using it to monitor if and when you do get the dreaded virus, checking blood O2 levels is equally important when you conduct your daily workout. Checking to make sure that you have proper oxygen levels before and after workout pretty much could prevent you from having any untoward injury.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro claims to have 2 weeks-worth of battery on a single charge. After 2 months of usage, we can honestly say that this is absolutely true. Easily one of the worry-free smartwatches to use. You don’t really have to constantly charge it up, but it’s good practice to do so anyway, and with a scratch resistance dial, you can rest easy knowing that the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro will retain its luster after months and years of wear and tear.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro can also monitor your stress meter and sleeping schedule (you’ll have to keep the watch on you when you sleep, though). It also has various stress-reducing exercises that you can activate to help you cope when the walls start closing in.

Aside from monitoring your overall health, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro acts as an everyday assistant as well. If you pair the smartwatch to your android phone, you can get more out of the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro like having a remote camera shutter  feature or being able to scroll through your phones music and control the playback features on your wrist. Heck, you can even store music on the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro itself (it can store up to approximately 500 mp3 songs).

Scan messages, notifications and answer or drop calls via your Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro. You can do all of those.

Lastly, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro also has a built-in GPS receiver so if you decide to leave your phone behind when you go through a run inside your village (with masks, of course), the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro can track and record your every movement. It will automatically sync with your phone once the watch comes into range.

If you’re in the market for a smartwatch that you can wear to pretty much any event, be in during a workout, a night out or a formal occasion, then the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is a great piece of digital arm candy that you may want to invest in. It’s a gorgeous timepiece (even if it is a digital smartwatch) and the materials used and design screams luxury without the need to spend over 20 or 30 thousand pesos.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro retails for Php 11,990 – already a very decent price for what you’re getting and for the impeccable design and construction that Huawei did. However, if you time it right, you could get a bunch of discounts and freebies with your purchase. During the pre-order phase, Huawei included a bunch of goodies including powerbanks, a Huawei Freebuds 3i and a whole lot more. Stay tuned for more seasonal sale from then by adding them up on their social media pages and keeping up to date.
