ONE Store Beta Now Available

Recently, ASUS launched a bevy of new laptops in the Philippines, and among them is the new Vivobook S 14X OLED. This latest Vivobook is an impressive laptop in many ways, especially for work and for on-the-go productivity.

Sure, ASUS’ line of laptops, be it the Zenbook or Vivobook, are all promising partners for all your work or school needs. Though the new S 14X OLED stands out in a couple of ways, with its most stand-out feature being the 14.5-inch OLED display.

The screen isn’t impressive just because it’s OLED, it’s also noteworthy for having a 2.8K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, making the S 14X OLED the first laptop in the world to have a display of this quality.

On top of the display, the laptop also features up to a powerful 12th generation Intel Core i7-12700H along with a striking design that’s sure to complement your sense of style.

In case you’re unconvinced or if you still want to know more, we explore why the Vivobook S 14X OLED has the best display in its class, all while being an impressive all-around laptop.

Impressive Display

As mentioned above, the Vivobook S 14X OLED packs a 14.5-inch OLED screen with a 2.8K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Thanks to the high resolution and fast refresh rate, the laptop’s screen is seriously impressive as it looks sharp and responsive when in use. It also helps that the screen has a 16:10 aspect ratio which gives you more vertical screen real estate. If you’re using a laptop with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio, moving to 16:10 is a great change as you get to see more of your workspace vertically which is ideal for documents, spreadsheets, and more.

Aside from the large size and high resolution/refresh rate, the screen of the S 14X OLED has a bevy of certifications, including 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, 1,000,000:1, VESA CERTIFIED Display HDR True Black 600, and Pantone certification. Thanks to these, you are guaranteed to see accurate colors for your content creation needs (especially important for photo and video editing).

To add icing on the cake, ASUS says that the display has 70% less harmful blue light along with SGS Eye Care, meaning you should be able to use the laptop for longer without straining your eyes.

For work, there’s no beating the S 14X OLED’s screen as other competing laptops typically have smaller screens with slower refresh rates. Display size usually caps out at 14-inches in this class, and you’ll have to spring for a gaming laptop to get a bigger screen, but those are typically much bulkier and harder to bring everywhere.

Not Just for Productivity

Aside from work, the S 14X OLED’s display is also an excellent partner for some R&R, especially if you love watching movies and shows in your free time.

Thanks to the OLED screen, the laptop outputs vibrant colors and deep blacks which is perfect for watching your favorite movies and shows. It also helps that the laptop features Harman/Kardon-tuned speakers so you should get good audio quality to boot. Though for the best experience sound-wise, having external speakers or headphones is recommended, and you can connect these via the laptop’s 3.5mm headphone jack.

Much like for work, the large screen size makes all the difference for binge-watching. If you love binge-watching on a laptop (say your family always fights over who gets to watch on the big TV), the S 14X OLED will not disappoint. It also helps that the slim bezels make for an even more immersive viewing experience.

Striking Street Looks

Over the past years, ASUS has continuously improved the design of its Vivobook line, and the S 14X OLED might just be the best-looking one yet while still maintaining a sleek, low-profile look.

Similar to last year’s Vivobook Pro models, the S 14X OLED has streetwear-inspired looks, with design elements on the cover and the keyboard matching popular streetwear brands like Off-White. Though to add some pop, the Escape key has a red color which gives it a subtle design flourish.

Aside from looking stylish, ASUS also went practical with the Vivobook’s design as it comes with a 180-degree lay-flat hinge so you can lay the laptop down flat for easy team collaboration. It also comes with a nifty physical webcam shield for enhanced privacy. There’s even a fingerprint scanner on the power button which is designed so that you won’t be able to accidentally press it when you’re typing furiously.

Finally, the laptop has a matte finish all over which not only adds to its street/techwear-inspired look, it also makes it feel great to use and hold, not to mention that it makes it super-easy to clean.

Comprehensive I/O

What’s also practical about the Vivobook S 14X OLED is its I/O. Unlike other laptops which only have a couple of USB-C ports (which isn’t ideal as you’ll have to bring dongles everywhere), the Vivobook S 14X OLED features a wealth of connectivity options.

Specifically, the laptop has:

  • 1x USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
  • 2x Thunderbolt™ 4 supports display/power delivery
  • 1x HDMI 2.1 TMDS
  • 1x 3.5mm Combo Audio Jack

Thanks to these options, you won’t have to worry about connectivity for your other devices and accessories. The Thunderbolt 4 ports are nice as you can connect a display and charge fast via power delivery. Plus, HDMI 2.1 is nice to have if you need to connect to a display that supports a high refresh rate and resolution.

Powerful Processor

Last but certainly not least, the Vivobook S 14X OLED packs powerful hardware inside. Specifically, the laptop is powered by up to a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H processor that’s paired with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD. The laptop is also Intel Evo certified, meaning it has been rigorously tested by Intel to meet its requirements for on-the-go productivity.

For reference, we reviewed the Intel i7-12700H mobile processor earlier this year, and we found that it was a powerful CPU that’s a great fit for gaming laptops. Thanks to this, the S 14X OLED should have no issues running all the apps you need for work and more. Plus, other competing laptops only pack U-series processors which, while capable, just aren’t as powerful.

While the laptop doesn’t have a dedicated GPU, the Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics should still have enough power for some lighter content creation workloads. So for instance, if you need to work on some videos and other creative work, the Vivobook S 14X OLED should work in a pinch.

A Unique Package

When it comes to display quality, the Vivobook S 14X OLED can’t be beaten by other laptops in its segment in terms of size, resolution, refresh rate, and other features. On top of this, the Vivobook also features a powerful processor that also beats other laptops which only pack U-series processors. To add icing on the cake, the laptop has an impressive and stylish design that still has practical additions such as the webcam shutter.

Thanks to this combination of features, the S 14X OLED is truly a unique laptop package. So, if you’re on the lookout for a premium laptop for work and media consumption but want something that will perform fast for years to come, the Vivobook S 14X OLED is well worth considering as your next big tech splurge!
