After 2 years of isolation and lockdowns, the world is slowly waking up.  Health protocols are continuously being practiced, border restrictions are easing up and travel is starting to become a bit more accessible. At UnGeek, we’re used to traveling to attend conventions and cover other geeky events. So, we were really excited to have a bit of time to travel again. We understand the value of streamlining your travel gear especially if you’re going out of the country for work. We did just that at the recently concluded Gamescom Asia convention held in Singapore toward the final weeks of October.

With the influx of revenge travelers and those traveling for business, making sure you have the right tools in a rather confined and constricted space has become essential.  If you’re the type who loves to bring the entire office and all your work wherever you go, you’ll need an ultralight and ultra-powerful device that can keep up with you whether you find yourself nailed to a convention floor, downing Kopi-O’s and Kaya Toasts at a neighborhood café, or working on last minute presentations 30,000 feet up in the air.

This is where we think the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro comes into play.

Ultralight

One of the key selling points of the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro is how ridiculously thin and light it is. Weighing just under 1.4kg (around 3 lbs) and about 14.9 mm thin, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro can fit easily in a travel backpack, sling, or laptop envelope.

With international coverages, we usually bring a lot more gear than usual. On our recent trip, I brought 2 camera phones, 2 mini tripods, various audio-capturing devices, and at least 2 power banks. Having a laptop as light as the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro was definitely a big help with a bit of the baggage weight shaved off.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro’s form factor makes it easy to transfer into a separate bag like the denim Tote Bag I got from Everyday Ave.

The 14” 2.8K (2880×1800) OLED display is also the right size to prop on the convention tables at Gamescom Asia or on my lap while we killed time at the Jewel Changi.

Ultra-Powerful

Despite the size, weight, and width of this device, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro is a beast when it comes to performance and productivity. This is thanks to the 12th-Gen Intel® Core™ i7 processor managing every app and program you need. This is heavily supported by a fixed 16GB of LPDDR5-4800 RAM and (at least in this iteration of the Yoga Slim 7i Pro) an RTX 2050 GPU.

While not a 30-series GPU, the RTX 2050,  on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro is a much-welcomed addition compared to just using integrated graphics or a slightly less-powerful MX series (usually the GPUs for thinner ultrabooks). The unit’s RTX 2050 allows it to support games with Ray-tracing options.

That being said, even if you don’t use the unit for gaming, taking on heavy images or video processing workload can be handled with greater support because of the GPU, RAM and the 12th-Gen Intel® Core™ processor. For the unit that we brought on our trip to Singapore, it was equipped with a 12th-Gen Intel® Core™ i7 12700H Processor. The newer generation of Intel processors are heavily equipped for multiple processing and should be able to handle Adobe software running at the same time. It did for us when we fired up both Photoshop and Premier at the same time while running multiple tabs on Chrome in the background.

In fact, the video below was edited solely on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro and because of the combined power of the GPU, CPU, and RAM, the rendering time for the entire almost 14-minute-long video was done in under 3 minutes tops. Wowza!

Internal storage-wise, the unit has a large 1TB PCIe SSD so I don’t have to worry about dumping lots of photo and video assets into the unit.

The device is also bundled with Windows 11 and Microsoft Office 2021 Home and Student Edition.

Ultra-Chic

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro is built with an all-aluminum chassis that is smooth to the touch and easy on the eyes. Our device has a hyper minimalist look and came in a muted Storm Grey colorway that helped accentuate the contrast of the Lenovo YOGA branding that’s rendered in a shinier shade of chrome.

The rounder edges found on all corners of the laptop lend a more elegant silhouette and play with the more flexible notion of Lenovo YOGA’s brand personality – a machine that is free from the more common restrictions and celebrates diverse usage in the ever-changing business landscape. Speaking of flexibility, you can open the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro’s screen a whole 180 degrees and lay it flat. While not a touch screen, this at least can give you a wide range of viewing angles to choose from.

If there ever is a complaint that I have with the machine, it is the lack of more connective ports. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro only has 2 USB-C Thunderbolt ports and one USB-A port. It also has a 3.5mm combo jack if you still use wired audio devices.

All-in-all, we’re quite happy with our time with this nifty little portable productivity device. I’m thankful that I didn’t have to lug my usual 17-inch workhorse of a laptop that weighs a ton just so I can have a machine that can quickly churn out video and photo content during our international conventions.

Battery life is also quite good on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro. Fully charged, it can last me about 5-6 hours on moderate use (writing articles, adjusting photos via Photoshop, and starting on a few video edits here and there). If the battery dips down, and I can’t find a plug nearby, I usually just turn on battery saving mode and it would last me long enough before I could head back to the hotel and recharge the unit again.

After going through features and how we were able to churn out all the materials we set out to do, we think it’s important to talk about a factor that most people overlook: The after-sales support.

When looking for a device, making sure you get the best support even in times of trouble and accidents will give you even better value for money. Lenovo makes sure that new users are well taken care of with all 2022 Yoga devices covered by 3-Year Premium Care and 3-Year Accidental Damage Protection.

The three-year Premium Care warranty of Lenovo offers direct and easy access to well-trained technicians who can provide solutions for those who need help setting up or troubleshooting, 24/7.  For more advanced issues, on-site support by appointment is also available, to avoid long waiting in line.

For Accidental Damage protection,  drops, spills, bumps, structural failures, and even electrical surges are covered. Lenovo’s technicians can run diagnostic tests on-site for you and make quick fixes using Lenovo-Qualified parts. This helps prevent more intensive, more expensive repairs.
