Riot Games recently shared the 2023 roadmap for Legends of Runeterra, giving players an idea of what to expect content-wise this year.

For this year, Riot promises that the developers will work more closely with the LoR community for timely features, expansions, and events. While the roadmap isn’t detailed with specifics yet regarding these features and events, it does give players an idea of what’s in store.

So, here’s a quick rundown of the Legends of Runterra 2023 roadmap:

For 2023, player scan expect more LoR-exclusive champions, items, and Relic balances. Another big upcoming update is the new competitive structure. Plus new formats will also be introduces. More info on these additions will be revealed soon.

Next, Riot mentioned that the game will shift to a quarterly release cycle. With this, there will be no empty month during the year as there will always be either an expansion, live-balance patch, or a variety set. There will also be new ways to show off your in-game achievements, as well as new monthly adventures in the Path of Champions for PvE lovers to enjoy.

Finally, Riot is also exploring a couple of ideas, including new limited modes, more ways to play with international players, and player tournaments, among others.

As for the quarterly release cycle, here’s a visualization of what players can expect:

Essentially, a quarter in the game will begin with an expansion that introduces new champions and mechanics. Then, the next month should feature balance patches to properly tune the new champions. Finally, a variety set will be released — think of these as mini-expansions as they come with a small set of new cards. Once a new quarter rolls in, another expansion should be released, thus begins another cycle.

Riot is also inviting players to join the game’s Reddit community. There, developers will be lurking (and sometime interacting) with players for the most direct feedback for the game.
