OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G | Geek Lifestyle

The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G is the quintessential Portrait Expert.

The epic return of OPPO and their celebrated Portrait Expert comes with all buzz, hype, and fanfare one would imagine, given their impeccable 2023 track record. With the launch of their cream of the crop in the brand new OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G, we once again bear witness to pro-level features, top-of-the-line specs, and aesthetics–only cranked to 11.

Now, this is not a mere “pro” device in name alone, as they’ve taken the next step in introducing flagship-level features and specs. As far as edging out the competition goes, OPPO has really brought out the big guns, giving the Reno10 Pro+ 5G a Philippine release–the first of its kind in the Pro series.

Check out our first impressions here:

We’ve spent even more time playing around with the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G, and a couple of days after its official launch, we’re still finding interesting things to talk about. While this all well and good, we’re still left with the burning question: Just how well does it edge out the competition? Allow us to satisfy that burning curiosity with our full review of the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G.

Geek-sthetic

The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G will dazzle you right out of the box. Regardless of whether you get one of two colorways—shiny Silvery Grey or fabulous Glossy Purple, you’ll like what you see. Now, unlike most smartphones with the same glass-clad exterior, the Reno10 Pro+ 5G isn’t quite the fingerprint magnet–unless, of course, you try your best to add those smudges. We could attribute this to the backside being adorned with some tough, yet tantalizing Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Quite the combination.

Up top, we get the life of the portrait party–a very interesting design when it comes to OPPO’s Ultra-Clear Portrait Camera System. Three lenses, three times the cool factor. There’s a lot you can do with these shooters, and we’ll get to it in a bit.

Binge-watching Factor

Before we get distracted by the Reno10 Pro+ 5G wonderful backside, let’s appreciate what’s up front. The generous 6.74” OLED 3D curved screen comes with some ultra-thin bezels–basically giving you an almost seamless view. As for durability, you get some premium materials, namely AGC Dragontrail Star 2 cover glass. This guarantees you won’t be cracking any displays anytime soon. Just make sure not to use the smartphone as a bludgeon.

As far as almost borderless displays go, you get a sweet 93.9% screen-to-body ratio. These, by far, are the slimmest bezels you’ll find on a Reno series device. This ensures you can have an equally pleasurable binge watch experience on the go, just as you would at your dedicated workstation. I’m not saying you should binge watch while you work, I’m just giving you a suggestion. The same goes with gaming, which is yet another experience that the Reno10 Pro+ 5G delivers nicely.

Gaming Prowess

This is another area where the Reno10 Pro+ 5G incorporates their flagship-level components. Aside from the pro-level peepers, we get a chipset that can work as hard as you can. The flagship level combo of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and an Adreno 730 GPU ensures gaming is as easy as it is occasionally hard. Buttery smooth gameplay, frames for days, and an abundance of pixels for demanding titles like Genshin Impact are always a welcome addition to any smartphone.

With 12GB of expandable RAM and 256GB of storage, you’re all set.  The display’s 120 Hz ultra-high refresh rate is an immense help in improving the smoothness of your gameplay experience. As for the less demanding games like Honkai Star Rail, you need not worry about a thing. You can play for hours without any worry of overheating thanks to the smartphone’s decent thermals. It will get warm, but never too hot to handle.

Geek Photoshoot Capabilities

It’s about time we moved on to the climax–by that, I mean the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G’s Ultra-Clear Portrait Camera System. For this setup, we get three powerful lenses comprised of a 50MP Ultra-Clear Main Camera with an IMX890 sensor and OIS, an 8MP 112° ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 64MP periscope telephoto portrait lens equipped with an upgraded Portrait Mode. These three can be fired at will rather easily via OPPO’s camera app. As far as normal shots go, the 50MP main shooter produces crystal clear shots. While it doesn’t utilize the periscope telephoto lens, you can still get a nice bokeh effect if your subject is up close in the foreground. You also get lossless zoom up to 6X, at least when it comes to your subject.

As for our periscope telephoto portrait camera, you’ll notice a feature that’s baked in for your convenience. Once you set your camera to “Portrait,” it defaults to 3X zoom. One might get confused at first, switching it back to default. In the days we’ve been tinkering, we’ve come to realize that it’s a more optimum setting which you can learn to adjust to. Of course, it’ll all boil down to preference, but the 3X zoom is a lot of fun to play around with. It’s also worth noting that shooting portraits in “portrait orientation” yields the best results on our end. There’s a variety of filters to play around with, and “bokeh flare” was hands-down, our favorite.

Selfies are just as vivid and clear thanks to a 32MP lens with an IMX709 sensor. You’ll get some decent AutoFocus up to 2X zoom with a minimum focus distance of 15cm. Yes, even the most reluctant of selfie-takers will have to relent–myself included. As for videos, you can shoot up to 4K/60 fps with the main lens, and 1080p/30fps up front.

This resolution carries over even when you activate portrait mode for videos. Yes, you won’t be shooting 4K with bokeh anytime soon, but it’s still a nice step up from your usual video shoot.

Everyday Reliability

There’s a lot to unpack and explore with the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G, given the amount of power contained in its slim body, Now, this might leave you wondering if you can harness that power and keep it in check. Moreover, can you bounce back up once you run out of said power? Short answer is yes and definitely yes and a bag of potato chips.

You’re running on Android 13 and ColorOS 13.1, a very stable combo that ensures you’ll be working seamlessly in conjunction with that Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. It’s optimized enough to give you both power and productivity without draining your battery. Speaking of which, you get a generous 4700 mAh battery coupled with a 100W SUPERVOOC Flash Charger–the first of its kind in a Reno series smartphone.  You’ll last the entire day, and get right back into the action in less than half an hour guaranteed.

The most consistent results we’ve gotten so far involve 8 hours with mobile data switched on, generous camera usage all throughout, a portion dedicated to internet browsing and video streaming, and two hours of Honkai: Star Rail before hitting 0%. Of course, we’ll try more stressful procedures, but if you’re using this smartphone as a daily driver, you can get even more hours out of it.

Final Geek Lifestyle Verdict

This is by far the most decked out entry into OPPO’s Reno series, and it has all the features, components, bells, and whistles to warrant a pretty penny. If you want to step up your portrait expertise without compromising power and style, then you’d best check this smartphone out.
