The recently released spectacular affordable mid-range device from HONOR, the HONOR 90 5G, drew massive raves from Pinoy tech enthusiasts because of a lot of innovations packed within a smartphone under 25 thousand Pesos. So, when HONOR Philippines handed us this new “Lite” version, we were skeptical at best. While we have no solid knowledge of the official SRP (we’ll all have to wait until the official launch of the HONOR 90 Lite 5G this coming September 26, 2023), the guys at HONOR Philippines hinted that the price has a huuuge disparity with its OG model.
This now begs the question: Can the HONOR 90 Lite 5G live up to its predecessor, and does it have enough features and knickknacks to be deemed worthy of the HONOR 90’s lineage?
Well, we’ll need a few more days to figure this out but from what we’re seeing now, and if the price that we’re predicting is right, it may have just enough to follow in the footsteps of greatness.
Large Storage and Camera
One of the more prominent features of the HONOR 90 5G is its large 200MP Flagship Camera and whopping 512GB Internal memory – something that’s not all too common within its segment. It seems the Lite version is following this for its more budget-friendly segment. While not technically the same as its predecessor, the HONOR 90 Lite 5G has a triple camera array with a large 100MP f/1.9 “Ultra Clear” camera taking charge. This is followed by a 5MP wide camera and a 2MP Macro.
This is followed by a large 256GB Internal memory and a sizeable 8GB RAM (that can be increased to 13GB when necessary).
Sure, the specs may not be as exciting as the OG, but consider that this is a phone that would probably cost half of the original (again, we’re only speculating the price at this point).
Display innovations on a budget-friendly phone?
Another key feature of the HONOR 90 5G is its amazing display which is able to nab various certifications, citations, and awards from different sectors. For its lighter “Lite” sibling, the HONOR 90 Lite also carries some portion of the display innovation found with its predecessor: the Dynamic Dimming and Circadian Night Display to be more specific.
While it doesn’t have the same PWM Dimming tech as its bigger (and bolder) brother, the HONOR 90 Lite 5G joins in on the commitment of ensuring that your eyes are well taken cared of, especially against nasty blue lights that could disrupt your sleep cycle and cause eye fatigue quickly.
More features waiting to be unearthed
There are, of course, more features waiting to be explored – like an instant movie or multi-movie mode where the system supposedly helps cut your video-making process quicker than going through various apps and painstakingly editing your reels or Instagram stories frame by frame on your screen. Speaking of screens, the HONOR 90 Lite also comes with a big 6.7-inch LTPS LCD FHD+ Display with a 93% screen-to-body ratio.
If there’s anything that sets the two phones apart, it’s the overall design structure – and this is something we’ve come to expect. While the HONOR 90 5G has a 3D Curved display and a sensual melted-gold luxury design aspect, the HONOR 90 Lite 5G went the opposite direction. The design is a bit minimalist for my taste but the flat screen lends to a better gaming experience, so there’s that.
Overall, there’s a lot to unpack with the HONOR 90 Lite 5G, and dismissing it as a “poor man’s” HONOR 90 5G renders the device a disservice. While the name implies that this is a “lite” version of the HONOR 90, the HONOR 90 Lite 5G has pretty large features.
