During the recent Xbox Developer_Direct, Bethesda Softworks and MachineGames revealed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a new first-person game featuring the legendary archeologist.

This game has been confirmed to be in the works for some time now, though this is the first time that gameplay footage was shown, giving players a better idea of what to expect.

Check out the game’s official reveal trailer here:

Bethesda’s new Indiana Jones game is set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, meaning it’ll follow Indy during his peak (instead of his older, more grizzled appearance in The Dial of Destiny).

The game’s story is described as:

The year is 1937, sinister forces are scouring the globe for the secret to an ancient power connected to the Great Circle, and only one person can stop them – Indiana Jones. You’ll become the legendary archaeologist in this cinematic action-adventure game from MachineGames, the award-winning studio behind the recent Wolfenstein series, and executive produced by Hall of Fame game designer Todd Howard.”

Indiana Jones should be a great match for an action-adventure game, though it’s interesting that the developers went with a first-person perspective. It’s possible this was done to differentiate it from the likes of Uncharted and Tomb Raider — two franchises that are no doubt inspired by the classic Indy movies.

The Great Circle will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass later this year. For now, there’s no word yet on a specific release date.
