The new anime season is finally here, and it brings Delicious in Dungeon, a new fantasy anime on Netflix that’s easily a must-watch for any and every anime fan!

Last season saw lots of great shows such as Frieren and The Apothecary Diaries (both continuing until March). Now, Delicious in Dungeon has premiered, and it has quickly shot up our watch list.

In case you missed its reveal, this new fantasy anime is made by Trigger, the iconic anime studio behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, SSSS.Gridman, and Kill la Kill. With Trigger at the helm, this show already promises to deliver an excellent time.

Of course, its studio isn’t the only reason to watch it as this series features a story with a fresh and hilarious take on the fantasy genre.

Delicious in Dungeon has the trappings of a D&D-inspired fantasy show as it features an adventuring party (with a warrior, mage, and thief) that embarks on a dungeon-crawling journey to save a loved one.

This isn’t a super serious fantasy series though. In their journey, the party nourishes themselves by cooking and eating the various monsters that they encounter, giving the series a heavy dose of hilarity.

To give you a better idea of what to expect, the anime’s premise is described as:

In the depths of the dungeon, the younger sister of adventurer Laios was eaten by a Red Dragon ― and he barely made it back to the surface with his life.

Laios attempts to venture into the dungeon again, but his money and rations are still in the dungeon’s lower depths.

Knowing that his sister may be digested at any moment, Laios decides: “I’ll get my food from the dungeon itself!” That means eating slimes, basilisks, mimics and even dragons!

Go forth, adventurer ― traverse the dungeon and eat whatever stands in your way!

The show’s first episode premiered last week, and while it was short, it already delivered a lot of laughs. From what we’ve seen so far, the cast is a loveable bunch, and the world/lore is already intriguing. Plus, Trigger’s animation shines once again, both in terms of quality and creativity.

Delicious in Dungeon is streaming now on Netflix, with new episodes being released every week. What’s more, the show is available in a variety of dub options, including Japanese, English, Hindi, and more.
