It's 16 inches of pure, unbridled beauty.

With HUAWEI leading the charge into the new year with a premium device surprise, the Huawei MateBook D 16 2024 is finally here. With an even bigger, vibrant FullView Display, a powerful, top-notch processor, and a suite of easy-to-use apps you’ve come to know and love, it’s definitely a fine way to kick off 2024.

There’s certainly a demand for laptops with bigger screens in the modern landscape, but without the hassle of being too cumbersome, too heavy, and too unwieldy for the average professional on the go. With some tech sorcery and know-how, HUAWEI looks to bring the glory of majestic, picturesque screens and lightweight bodies together without the excess baggage.

WATCH: Huawei MateBook D 16 2024 Review

We’ve checked out its previous iteration, and its smaller, equally powerful younger sibling. With specs through the roof while clad in such a simple chassis, it’s worth wondering just how surprising the HUAWEI Matebook D16 2024 could be.

Geek-sthetic

The Huawei Matebook D16 2024 is a no-nonsense, hardworking beast of a laptop that also sports a sleek, slim, and rather stylish aesthetic. Just like its predecessors, its Mystic Silver colorway has no frills when it comes to presentation. Aside from the brand’s name being adorned on the cover, you pretty much get a simple, smooth exterior. Opening it up, you get a fingerprint power button, a full keyboard, and its wonderfully vibrant 16-inch display. More on this later, of course.

“Maximised Display, Minimal Weight” is the name of the game for this device, and to highlight that, we get a 16-inch, eye-comfort FullView display coupled with a 17mm, 1.68 kg body. For something so wide, it’s surprisingly portable. We also have a beautiful 180-degree spread for those times when you need to mount it on any desk arms, or prefer a more level surface. We also get an abundance of ports, with an all-purpose USB-C port that supports data transmission, charging, and the patented DisplayPort, one USB-A port that supports USB 2.0, one USB-A port that supports USB 3.2 Gen 1, and an HDMI 1.4 port.

Compared to many laptops of the same size, the Huawei Matebook D 16 2024 has a certain edge when it comes to being thinner and more lightweight. Portability is key for the professional on the go.

Binge Watching Factor

It’s the star of the show! The Huawei Matebook D 16 2024 sports a vivid, immersive FullView display with a generous 16:10 aspect ratio. This should pretty much solve most problems when watching anything on full screen–as you do. The bezels are quite thin, further accentuating just how large the display is. With an equally generous 90% screen-to-body ratio and a 100% sRGB color gamut, you won’t be having any on-screen issues anytime soon.

The Huawei Matebook D 16 2024’s display isn’t simply big on paper, and this isn’t just a marketing gimmick. You’re literally getting all 16 inches of pleasure–of the viewing kind, of course. Of course, along with such a massive display comes a good level of comfort. There’s nothing worse than using a laptop for 8 hours straight or more, and having to recover from a headache. We get a matte screen coupled with TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light and flicker-free certification that guarantee that your eyes stay won’t suffer from any strain. This is regardless of whether you choose to crank up all 300 nits of brightness or not.

As per our testing, you do get a vibrant and comfortable viewing experience for recreation, and possibly a more efficient workflow. More of the former on my end. It’s a great display to have both in the office and in the classroom, online and offline.

Sound Trip

The Huawei Matebook D 16 2024 boasts some clear, and crisp sounding speakers that don’t snap, crackle, and pop even if you crank the volume up. The overall auditory experience is enhanced even further thanks to Sound TrueVoice, Sound TrueHD, and personal voice enhancement. These work well even if you’re rocking wireless earbuds.

The Sound TrueVoice noise cancellation make sure you hear every detail in whatever song you’re jamming to, or whoever’s on the conference call. Sound TrueHD gives that open-back headphones feeling that helps simulate a bustling office environment. If you’re doing things face-to-face, this is perfect for you. Lastly, with some sweet personal voice enhancement, you can be heard loud and clear thanks to some patented voice print recognition, and a very effective AI algorithm model.

Typing Experience

As we mentioned earlier, we have a full keyboard. This is very much a welcome addition and makes use of the Huawei MateBook D 16 2024’s size. Yes, it’s not one to skimp on the numpad, so those who like to crunch statistics will be thrilled. It has all the necessary keys that anyone at work would need–and perhaps anyone playing games at home would, too.

With 1.5mm high key travel and physical shortcut keys, you get the complete experience, as far as typing standards go. The keys are tactile, don’t feel squishy under pressure, and are easy to navigate even for fat-fingered, slow typists like yours truly. You’ll be able to work more efficiently without the need to bring along an extra keyboard just to make use of the extra keys.

Gaming Prowess

This new Matebook comes well-equipped with a very powerful 13th Gen Intel Core i9 H-series processor. This, alongside its integrated Intel Iris XE graphics and 16GB of RAM, you can crunch those numbers, type up a storm, and video conference from dusk ’til dawn—while keeping things cool as a cucumber. In terms of storage, you get a whopping 1 terabyte’s worth of hard drive at your disposal.

Our particular model sports a 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-13900H and it can really carry your workload all day long.  In terms of gaming, we didn’t want to push it too hard as it didn’t have a dedicated GPU. That being said, the Intel Iris XE graphics processor was able to handle a few hours of Honkai: Star Rail on medium to high settings with motion blur switched off. For a mobile game that’s optimized for PC, it does require quite a bit of juice to look good. While the Huawei MateBook D 16 2024 didn’t break a sweat, its dual shark fin fans did keep things cool and quiet. We won’t recommend that you run Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty on this device, but anything that isn’t a AAA title will definitely run smoothly.

Everyday Reliability

Given the wealth of features the Huawei MateBook D 16 2024 has to offer, you’re pretty much guaranteed a reliable device. this is further reinforced in the workplace with its premium apps, smart features, and bit of hardware that could save your day. When it comes to any task at hand, WPS Office and WPS AI make crafting word documents, cranking out spreadsheets, and creating those much-needed presentations so much easier. It comes with all the necessary tools and features you’ll need in any office suite.

HUAWEI’s Superhub and Super Devices have both been mainstays in their recent premium office-geared gadgets, giving users the capability to temporarily store a variety of files and share them across said devices in a snap. Multi-device Collaboration is definitely something worth using in your day-to-day. Being able to seamlessly sync between devices has become quite necessary nowadays. The HUAWEI Metaline Antenna helps a great deal in improving connectivity, providing an SGS Five-star WI-Fi experience over any connection–both at work, and at home. This proves to be invaluable when you’re swamped with all those exciting and important online meetings.

With a 70Wh Large-Capacity Battery, you can get up to 13.5 hours of local video playback. That being said, if you do manage to drain all 70 of those watt hours, you can top up nice and easy with a beefy HUAWEI 70W USB-C power adapter that integrates nicely between the adapter and charging cable.

Final Geek Lifestyle Verdict

It’s hard to overlook the advantages that this laptop brings to both the academe and the workplace. The Huawei MateBook D16 2024’s display real estate gives you a big, beautiful viewing experience without sacrificing its overall weight and portability. A 16-inch screen isn’t exactly what you’d expect from your average work laptop, and neither is a 17mm, 1.68kg body. Going beyond the sleek exterior, you get a powerful processor that works seamlessly with HUAWEI’s quality hardware and intuitive software. Regardless of the job, you can consider it done.
