After opening in cinemas across the world recently, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire earned USD 194 million during its opening weekend.

To put that into perspective, the film is now the third highest-grossing movie of 2024. Plus, the previous movie Godzilla vs. Kong made USD 470 million in total, so the fact that Godzilla x Kong is nearly halfway just after its opening weekend means it has a strong chance of overtaking it in the box office.

In case you missed it, Godzilla x Kong is the latest entry in the Monsterverse series, and it sees Godzilla and Kong meet once again, but not for another faceoff.

The film is described as:

“The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”

While this new movie has gotten some mixed reviews from critics, it currently has a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that many viewers liked its action and effects.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is still showing in Philippine cinemas.
