Shadow of the Erdtree will be the only Elden Ring DLC, says Miyazaki

Going by FromSoftware's track record, Shadow of the Erdtree should still deliver an excellent experience even if it's the game's only expansion.

According to a recent interview with director Hidetaka Miyazaki, Shadow of the Erdtree will be the one and only DLC for Elden Ring.

Miyazaki was recently interviewed by the Chinese publication Campfire Camp (via Gamesradar), and there, he mentioned some interesting details about the upcoming expansion. One of the biggest reveals that he made is the fact that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the first and only DLC expansion for Elden Ring.

While some fans hoped that the game would get more expansions given that Dark Souls 3 got two big DLCs, the promised scale of Shadow of the Erdtree means players should still get plenty of hours of gameplay with this upcoming release. Plus, other FromSoftware games like Dark Souls 1 or Bloodborne only got 1 DLC each, though their quality meant players were not disappointed.

What’s also interesting is that, in the interview, Miyazaki also left the door open for an Elden Ring sequel, or at least a follow-up game set in the Lands Between. Sure, it’s not an outright confirmation of Elden Ring 2 being the studio’s next game, but it’s at least good to know for fans of the game that a sequel is possible.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on June 21, 2024. Aside from getting released digitally, there will also be a Collector’s Edition set.
