realme GT 7 Review | Geek Lifestyle

The realme GT 7 is an impressive lifestyle device.

We’ve got a new realme supercharged flagship set to rock our worlds, and it’s in the very sleek form of the realme GT 7. Not to be confused with its bright orange elder sibling from about half a year ago, this new smartphone is set to strike that balance between badass capability and sweet affordability.  It’s quite the interesting premise as the storied GT series has been well-known as straight-up gamer gear in spite of its flagship status. Since realme isn’t exactly a gamer-centric brand, and has a midrange roster that specializes in cameras–it can be a tad confusing.

However, the GT 7 seemingly aims to illuminate any uncertainties brought up in the past–namely, that it’s solely for gaming and not much else.

Yes, it does sport a new Dimensity 9400e processor. Yes, it has special IceSense graphene tech geared towards attaining stellar thermals. Indeed, it comes clad with the patented GT Boost that works to improve gaming performance. But there’s a bit more to this handy dandy war machine than one would think. There’s quite a bit of finesse involved–and during our week-long stay with it, we’ve come to understand that fact a bit more clearly.

Gaming can be a lifestyle, but the concept of a lifestyle device has a breadth that spans much wider. The realme GT 7 can definitely be more of a lifestyle device if you so desire, and if you read on, we’ll go into more detail as to why we think so.

Geeksthetic

We were lucky enough to snag the sleek, yet not-so-shiny IceSense Blue colorway. The fiberglass material allows for a matte finish that just stops fingerprints in their tracks. With a thinness of 8.3mm and weighing only 206g, you won’t have any trouble handling this smartphone–whether you use the included TPU case or not. Speaking of what’s in the box, you get the usual SIM ejector tool. a USB-C to A cable, and a 120W SUPERVOOC Charger.

We get some nice flat edges this time around–which is great, as personally, those curved sides and borders were getting real old, real fast. You get the usual ports and buttons with a nice red accent on the power switch. Up top, we have the nice camera setup which follows in the GT tradition of not being circular. Unlike its immediate predecessor, though, we get a sleek square cutout.

It’s also worth noting that this is the very first time we’re seeing graphene used in a smartphone. This works in conjunction with realme’s ArmorShell Protection and ArmorShell Glass on the front panel and allows for one of the largest vapor chamber cooling areas at 7700mm2. More on that later.

As for durability, the realme GT 7 is fully certified for IP69, IP68, IP66 dust and water resistance. This means it’s fully dust-proof and waterproof under fixed conditions–like, if you don’t actually try to wreck it on purpose. As for any sub-aquatic mishaps, you’ll be happy to know that this device is submersible in water for up to 1.5m and up to 30 minutes. Just don’t go figuratively overboard, and you’ll be fine.

Binge-watching Factor

Now, the realme GT 7 has a great display. It may not be its main selling point, but you will be staring at it for the most part. It’s a good thing you’re getting a 6.78” 8T LTPO AMOLED screen with a very generous 93.9% screen-to-body ratio. Almost chinless, we’d say. You also get a 1.5K, 2780×1264 resolution clad in Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Of course. you get a 120Hz refresh rate, which should definitely be the standard in this day and age.

You won’t have any trouble viewing just about anything under direct sunlight or in complete darkness, thanks to its 6,000 nit max brightness. As for the 360Hz Touch
Sampling Rate, you’ll be browsing non-stop with ease. Everything feels smooth and snappy.

If we’re going into a bit more detail, the realme GT 7 has 2160Hz PWM Dimming–which is great for longer viewing sessions, as you won’t get any unnecessary flickering. Couple this with the phone’s included AI Eye Comfort Features and you’re good to go.

While streaming your favorite shows and movies with Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ support, some hi-res dual stereo speakers allow for great audio fidelity even when cranked at maximum. No earbuds, no problem. Just don’t do it in public. Please.

Gaming Prowess

As we mentioned earlier, gaming is absolutely a highlight for the realme GT 7. While it’s not the be-all and end-all of this smartphone’s features, it’s definitely at the top. If you’re looking for the gist of what this device is capable of–you can run anything on it. Bar none. Easily. Now, if you’re keen on details, let’s get down to business.

The brand new Mediatek Dimensity 9400e is quite the curious powerhouse. It’s supposedly in a step above the 8400 Ultra and a step below the world-shattering 9400–on paper and benchmarks, at least.

However, based on our real world experience, it’s seemingly neither. Take note that you’re also running on 12GB of default RAM, Trinity Engine, and realme’s patented GT Boost on full throttle. These could have been the X-factors here.

Whether it be your favorite MOBA or graphically demanding gacha title that came out in 2024, you can slap it into the GT 7, set everything to maximum, and go wild. We’re not even exaggerating here. Switch on GT Boost and Geek Power Tuning (if the game is supported) and you’ll be getting a very smooth gaming experience. When it comes to the most graphically intense stress tests, we fired up both Wuthering Waves and Love and Deepspace. We want the best details on our characters. For research purposes.

As for some of the new features, we get the AI Gaming Coach for MOBAS and FPS titles. It’s definitely there, and it works–but we feel that a firmware update or two will benefit this feature, as it’s not as accurate as one would want it to be.

In terms of thermals, that IceSense Graphene design works overtime. After a string of MLBB matches followed by an hour of Wuthering Waves, we only got some slight warmth from the realme GT 7’s backside. We even had the TPU case on, so take that as you will. We’re also finally getting Smart Bypass Charging–something that every gaming phone should have in 2025. Charging speed didn’t slow down in our experience, but having the cable stuck on the bottom of the smartphone was a bit of a hassle. Still, it’s definitely a great feature to have if you’re into long gaming sessions and need to charge while doing so.

So, would we say that the 9400e is more powerful than its competition? Perhaps. Can it perform just as well as the higher-end 9400 in real world situations? Apparently so. Chipsets aren’t everything when it comes to gaming as there are other factors to consider–like just how well that chipset works with all the other moving parts. So, it seems like realme has done some nice optimization here. We’re excited to see how things fare in the long run. For now, you can game to your heart’s content while staying icy.

Geek Photoshoot Capabilities

Now, here’s the part where we talk about lifestyle. The GT 6 had capable cameras and banked on its AI features quite a bit. As for the GT 7, personally, realme kicked things up a notch with their triple camera setup. For your main shooter, you get a 50MP Sony IMX906 with some capable OIS. with a 1.56” sensor size, you get some nice depth to your subjects at certain distances. You also get some great daytime shots and some surprisingly decent low-light snaps.

Next up is the 50MP 2x Samsung S5KJN5 rear telephoto camera with a 1/2.8” sensor and an f/2.0 aperture. The realme GT 7’s zoom maxes out at 20X, and we’re totally fine with that. Going beyond that for this kind of sensor will only incorporate noise anyway. At 20X, it still manages to capture a bit of good detail. Of course, this is with the help of AI. Portrait shots can be tad aggressive at lower apertures, but crank it beyond 5.6 and you’ll get some nice bokeh. Whichever suits your taste.

Lastly, we have an 8MP OV08D10 wide angle camera with a 1/4” sensor size and a f/2.2 aperture. Now, we know that ultrawide lenses on non-camera-centric flagships are usually frowned upon, but personally, we enjoyed how the GT 7’s wide lens managed to capture almost accurate colors as the main shooter. After all, that’s what we want–just a wider perspective. We don’t want our colors desaturated, do we? As such, switching between modes won’t yield any egregious issues, especially for those who simply wish to save some nice memories–like a Taiwan trip that you still miss after two days. But we digress.

You also get some nice AI features and filters baked into the GT 7’s camera app. By default, you can choose between “crisp” and “vibrant,” photography styles which yields a slightly different tone for your photos. The former is closer to what you shoot by default, while the latter adds a bit of saturation. Again, preferences top everything. The “travel filters” that emulate different high-end cameras and three different lighting modes that are available in the realme 14 Pro+ are also here–adding for a bit more flavor in your photos.

A pleasant treat for anyone who wants to be a tad more artistic with their shots. Of course, we can’t forget the ever-reliable AI features in your gallery. Our favorite, of course is the AI eraser. It’s as clean as can be.

Selfies come out nicely, too. The 32MP Sony IMX615 front camera allows for some nice, clear shots and tasteful bokeh, both in 0.8X and 1X. Lastly, videos are quite a treat–as you can shoot up to 4K 120fps and 8K 30 fps on the main shooter. The best part is being able to capture 4K 60 fps using the selfie cam. It’s all we’ve ever wanted, and we’re glad the GT 7 has it.

Everyday Reliability

Adding to the lifestyle factor, the realme GT 7 is one heck of a daily driver and travel partner. We just might craft a feature on the latter, so stay tune. For now, let’s talk about why this smartphone would be a great addition to your loadout.

Batter life is exemplary, with all 7000 of those mAh being put to good use. On standby–and unintentionally, we were able to get three days of battery life about half a battery to spare. This wasn’t part of the test, but it’s worth mentioning. Once we get down to the wire, things did change, but not substantially. We got close to 8 hours from 100 to 0 with some regular use. This includes browsing, gaming, and actually using mobile data. With the latter in the mix, this is rather impressive as we all know that mobile data is the ultimate battery killer. As for charging, we only needed an hour thanks to 120W SUPERVOOC. You may think that’s a long time, but consider the battery’s size for a moment.

With an extra 12GB of RAM thanks to expansion, and realme 6.0 UI coupled with Android 15, any everyday task is easy enough to manage. Not to mention you have a very generous 512GB of storage. We’d want a 1TB variant, but that’s a story for another day.

The AI isn’t limited to gaming and photos, as the GT 7 has its own sidebar AI Assistant. It allows for quick access to certain apps that you can customize, a file dock, and an AI Writer, too. This is great for those who make constant use of chatbots for productivity–as the smartphone itself can help you craft quick writeups on the fly. This feature is definitely a gamechanger, for us, at least.

Geek Lifestyle Final Verdict

We have much more to say about the realme GT 7, as this review has yet to fully expound on its capabilities. We do believe we’ve touched base on what you do need to know, though. While it will always be a capable gaming partner thanks to its lineage, it’s now a bit more than that. From a powerful Dimensity 9400 chipset, to ice cold graphene materials, to a beefy, everlasting battery–this device should most definitely be on your radar.

There’s definitely a wider audience for realme to capture. If you’re not the most hardcore of gamers and simply need a phone that can keep up with your lifestyle, you can’t go wrong with the realme GT 7.
