Xiaomi introduces the new Redmi A5

The new Redmi A5 is here with a sleek, new design!

Xiaomi just announced the launch of their newest affordable smartphone in their budget-friendly roster, the Redmi A5. The device represents a significant upgrade in the series, combining advanced features with accessibility for a wider audience.

The Redmi A5 showcases a completely refreshed design featuring a sleek flat frame and an enhanced camera module with a new metallic-feel surround. Despite its slim 8.26mm profile, the device houses a substantially larger 6.88-inch display capable of running at up to 120Hz refresh rate, providing users with a more immersive viewing experience. The display also incorporates wet touch technology for improved responsiveness with damp hands, while TÜV Rheinland-certified eye protection and DC dimming help reduce eye strain during extended use.

We’re also getting significant camera upgrades in the Redmi A5. The smartphone features a powerful 32MP AI dual camera system with a larger sensor that captures 18% more light than its predecessor, resulting in clearer low-light photography and improved backlit performance. The front-facing camera has also been upgraded to 8MP, along with a soft-light ring feature that utilizes the display’s illumination for better selfies in dim environments.

The inclusion of an octa-core UNISOC T7250 processor provides a boost in performance, supported by up to 8GB of RAM through memory extension technology. This configuration aims to provide smooth multitasking and app performance even during demanding usage scenarios. Battery life remains a priority with the Redmi A5 sporting a substantial 5200mAh battery that reportedly supports over 20 hours of video playback or more than 9 hours of gaming on a single charge.

The device includes several practical features including a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, face unlock capability, and a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio accessories. The Redmi A5 comes in four sophisticated color options: Midnight Black, Sandy Gold, Lake Green, and Ocean Blue. The Lake Green and Ocean Blue variants feature veined patterns inspired by water ripples, while the Midnight Black and Sandy Gold options offer a matte, smudge-resistant finish.

The Redmi A5 arrives in the Philippines in four colors—Midnight Black, Sandy Gold, Lake Green, and Ocean Blue—offered in two variants: one with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage at only PHP 3,599, and another with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage at just PHP 4,099.

It will be available online starting May 20 via Xiaomi’s official Shopee and Lazada stores, and in authorized Mi Stores nationwide beginning May 23.
