The Leica Leitzphone is making some noise ahead off this year’s Mobile World Congress 2026 as it makes its official debut. From what’s been revealed so far, it looking to be a device that feels genuinely unlike anything else on the market–while familiar, in a strange way.

Launched earlier today during Xiaomi’s official livestream alongside a plethora of devices, the Leica Leitzphone is the first smartphone to carry the Leica name outright, developed in close collaboration with Xiaomi. The two companies have partnered on optics and camera modules for four years, but the Leitzphone takes that relationship to an entirely new level — this isn’t just a Leica-tuned camera system bolted onto a Xiaomi handset. It’s a Leica product, through and through, powered by Xiaomi.

The phone’s design philosophy flows directly from Leica’s longstanding ethos of making high-quality photographic tools that are immediate, accessible, and built to last. That translates into a device where image-making is the the bottomline, and not just an additional feature. A dedicated mechanical ring surrounds the multi-camera module, offering physical, customizable control over shooting parameters in a way that feels far closer to a premium compact camera than a typical smartphone.
Leica has also embedded thirteen dedicated photography modes into the software, drawing on classic film stock aesthetics and the signature rendering qualities of its legendary lenses. A dedicated Essential Mode goes even further, paying homage to iconic Leica cameras and film stocks from the brand’s storied history.

Leica CEO Matthias Harsch was characteristically direct about the ambition: “It brings our design principles, our expertise in image processing and our photographic ethos into everyday life.” The whole package is presented in Leica’s classic black and silver aesthetic, finished with the iconic red dot.
It’s available now via the official Leica website and Leica Stores, priced at £1,700 / €1,999. As of now, there’s no news on releases in other regions. One can only hope we get one here in the Philippines.
