HONOR Magic V6 | First 48 Hours Around the World

From the Arabian Sea to Pakistan to Bangkok, these are the first 48 hours of our mis adventure with the HONOR Magic V6

Feb 28, 2026 – It was supposed to be my first time covering Mobile World Congress and my first Europe Trip. As I prepared to board Qatar Airways, QR935 bound for Doha for our transfer flight to Spain, I began to imagine what the daily grind would be when we land in Barcelona. Will I have enough time to shoot all the gadgets? Did I bring enough gear? Did I pack warm enough for a European Winter?

Little did I know that we were about to embark on a side quest that will fundamentally change our lives. You see, 30 minutes before our descent into Doha, the on-going conflict in the Middle East started prompting our plane to make a sharp U-turn away from Qatari airspace and land somewhere in Karachi…Pakistan.

I was told later that had we successfully landed in Doha, we would have been stranded for a week on average.

That being said, Pakistan was not in my 2026 Life Bingo card, but we make do with what we have. After 10 hours of flight and additional 4 hours on the tarmac and terminal, the Philippine contingent that HONOR Philippines graciously sponsored were ushered into one of the many hotels the airline booked as temporary shelter. This is also when the HONOR Magic V6 (that was first announced at MWC 2026) was handed to us.

These are some photos from the phone from the time we got it till the time we got back in Manila roughly 48 hours later.

I tried to take as many photos as I could with the phone but considering the tense environment, I only was able to shoot inside the Ramada Hotel by Wyndham in Karachi. We arrived at the hotel past 8pm Karachi time and after securing our rooms (we were given 3 rooms in total for 12 people), we headed out to have our first meal in Pakistan.

Trying to make the most out of a tense situation, we kept our cool with just our hand-carry with us. Qatar Airways (or maybe the Pakistan government) did not allow our luggage to exit the plane. Luckily, I had brought just one change of shirt and underwear, my documenting gear, and some winter accessories for what should have been a European Winter trip.

Making the most out of the trip. Trying on the winter gear in Pakistan.

The HONOR Magic V6 touts its flagship camera configuration with a 50MP wide, 64MP Telephoto, and 50MP Ultra-wide camera configuration. While on paper this may seem similar to the previous generation, but with the usage of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the photos benefits from on-board AI optimization, better image stacking, and clearer, more natural-looking images….even without internet.

Because of our unexpected detour, the entire group did not have esims that would cover Pakistan. Our roaming services are also rendered ineffective regardless if you’re hooked up on Globe, Smart, or DITO. Nothing was working. That means we were reliant on the hotel’s spotty WiFi and we’re also competing with 400 or so more passengers that got stuck at Ramada at the same time.

So, for the most part, our HONOR Magic V6 was offline.

But because of the onboard NPU and HONOR Portrait Engine that was first introduced in the HONOR Magic 8 Pro, the Magic V6 was able to produce excellent photos no matter the distance to the subject. Here’s an example of the flora and fauna found literally inside the hotel compound.

The 64MP Telephoto allowed us to capture this Golden Eagle nest just near the lobby entrance.

The selfie cam was just as fun to use as the rear camera module. In fact, while most of our clothes are at our luggage which we couldn’t get access to, what was on my carry-on were some winter accessories like scarf, gloves, and beanie – all of which are rendered useless in Pakistan’s weather. That didn’t stop us from making some fun photoshoots with the HONOR Magic V6, though.

If you’re also wondering why we were only taking photos of anything and everything within our compound, that’s because we were forbidden to wander outside of it. If your arm attempts to go outside the border, rest assured it will get slapped by any of the Armalite-wielding guards stationed around the compound.

Towards the second evening at Pakistan we were lucky enough to book a flight out of the country towards Bangkok before heading back to Manila, thus ending our supposed MWC 2026 coverage. I took some photos of the surrounding once we got to the Karachi Airport but the atmosphere was still tense that I only took beauty shots of certain parts of the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.

We stayed in Bangkok for just a day to recharge (and because there were no commercial flights back to Manila that very same day), and because we didn’t have our luggage with us, we had to shop for clothes and essentials. But being stressed, lacking sleep, and lived through the trauma of possibly getting stranded in a conflict-zone place, the Portrait Engine of the HONOR Magic V6 was still able to bring out our best selves. Yessir, we refuse to look haggard and disheveled even in the sight of (possibly) impending doom.

With better subjects to take photos of, we maximized our time with the HONOR Magic V6 toying with it’s high-zoom capacity camera. Even with just 64MP Telephoto sensor, we were able to capture these awesome images.

When hardware, software, and AI kicks in, beautiful things are made. In fact, for the first time, there was an AI Erase feature on the HONOR Magic V6 that does not require you to use the cloud as everything is done on-device. It’s this:

Moire pattern sometimes comes out quite aggressively on screens, or fabric with overlapping interlacing patterns. The feature just smoothens it and brings about a more natural-looking subject.

48 hours after and we’re back in Manila, safe, sound, and ready to dive into our beds.

The HONOR Magic V6 with its sturdy built and the first foldable with an IP68/69 rating certainly held its own against what the universe threw at it. In fact, I’d dare wager it had a better time coping with the tumultuous circumstances than I did, but then isn’t that the nature of a foldable – it’s flexibility? And boy, did it live up to the challenge.
