Granblue Fantasy Relink – Endless Ragnarok is guaranteed to give players a challenge, as the developers confirmed that there will be harder bosses than Lucilius in the expansion.
In a media roundtable interview with Creative Director Tetsuyo Fukuhara and Narrative Director Sanshiro Hidaka, we got to ask a couple of questions, including what players can expect regarding the bosses in the expansion.
If you ask players about the hardest boss in the base game, most (if not all) will say that Lucilius has the most challenging fight. Players who enjoyed this tough boss fight will be happy to know that Endless Ragnarok will have even tougher content, as Fukuhara said in response to our question:
“There is content harder than Lucilius, and that’s because we’re introducing Master Traits, which makes characters even stronger than they were before. So, you can imagine if you unlock all of those Master Traits, you could clear Lucilius relatively painlessly. So, we’ve prepared some appropriate challenges after the credits rolled for Endless Ragnarok. We hope you’re looking forward to sweating.”

As Fukuhara explained, the Master Traits addition will make characters even more powerful. If the bosses in the expansion are only as tough as Lucilius, these Master Traits would make beating them a cakewalk. So, that explains why there are even tougher foes.
Note that Fukuhara revealed that these difficult bosses will only be available after the main story content of the expansion has been completed. This is partly because the developers don’t want players to experience massive walls or roadblocks in the expansion’s content, as adding a Lucilius-like boss (which heavily tests players’ reflexes) might make the main Endless Ragnarok too difficult for some players.
Fukuhara explained their approach as:
“The philosophy behind the bosses has kind of changed for Endless Ragnarok. For Relink, especially with Lucilius, he really tests your reflexes, so that’s sort of where the challenge comes from. However, in the new difficulty tier, including The World – the Chaos quest tier – there are new mechanics that revolve more around memory or strategy or seeing visual information and reacting to visual information rather than just pure raw instinct. So it has kind of a different battle essence.
It’s hard to compare these two types of battle philosophies, but if we added bosses that were as difficult as Lucilius, that would really limit the number of players who can play that content. We want to create an environment where players can play the Endless Ragnarok content until the end, so we’re not adding any content that’s harder than Lucilius until all the way after the story, so you can play the story to the end without encountering something like Lucilius.”

With Endless Ragnarok adding plenty of features that enhance players’ abilities, it’ll be interesting to see how the devs have tuned the bosses to make them even tougher. As we enjoyed the difficult bosses in the Grandblue Fantasy: Relink endgame, we’re definitely looking forward to the tough post-game fights in the expansion.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok will be released on PS5, PS4, Switch 2, and PC on July 9, 2026.
