Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are now available on PS5 and PS4

Note that these are the original versions of the first two Black Ops games.

After an initial announcement last month, Activision has finally released Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on PS5 and PS4.

These are quite significant releases, given that the original Black Ops 1 and 2 were released during the PS3 era. As such, players on consoles have had no way to play them on the latest platforms, given the lack of backwards compatibility with PS3 titles.

Finally, the first two Black Ops games are available now on PS5 and PS4. This means all Black Ops titles are now playable on the two consoles (given that Black Ops 7 still got a PS4 release).

Given that the PS5 is nearly six years old, it’s interesting that these titles still got PS4 releases, though it makes sense given that these are not remasters or enhanced editions, meaning the older hardware should have no issues handling them.

Yes, this means players who buy the PS4 or PS5 versions of these games will get what are essentially the original PS3 versions. There are also no FPS or FOV adjustment options. As such, players who buy these two titles should temper their expectations when it comes to their visuals.

While we’ll probably need to wait a while before the next Black Ops game, fans can look forward to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which is launching this October.
