Up to 50x digital zoom?! | Huawei unveils its new flagship P30 lineup

At Mobile World Congress 2019, we expected Huawei to reveal its flagship P30 series, but instead we got the foldable Mate X (a pleasant surprise I might add). Now though, we finally got our first look at the highly-anticipated P30 and P30 Pro smartphones, and boy are they worth the wait!

 

As with the P20 series, the P30 and the P30 Pro sport multi-camera setups in cooperation with Leica, but this time Huawei has upped the ante. Now, the base P30 comes with a (triple-camera) setup with hybrid zoom while the P30 pro packs a quadruple-camera setup that features a periscope zoom lens.

 

Thanks to the periscope lens, the P30 Pro has 5x optical zoom and up to 50x digital zoom which, even better zoom than the already impressive P20 Pro. As a whole, the P30 Pro’s camera setup is a 40 MP + 20 MP ultrawide + 8 MP periscope zoom telephoto + depth sensor setup. For the front camera, the Pro model comes with a 32 MP snapper.

 

As for the base P30, camera performance is shaping up to be better than last year’s Pro model with its 40 MP + 16 MP ultrawide + 8 MP telephoto setup. As for the selfie shooter, the base model also has a 32 MP shooter.

 

Cameras aside, the P30 and P30 Pro have waterdrop-notch (OLED) displays for minimal bezels with the base model having a 6-inch display and the Pro model packing a 6.47-inch screen. Speaking of the display, the P30 phones also have their fingerprint scanners underneath the screen.

 

Finally, the P30 and P30 Pro are powered by the Kirin 980 processor, Huawei’s highest-end SoC which also powers the Mate 20 line.

 

And now for pricing; the Huawei P30 Pro is priced at EUR 999 (around PHP 59,400) for the 128 GB storage version. Meanwhile, the base P30 has an SRP of EUR 799 (around PHP 47,500).
