Samsung unveils the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra

The Galaxy S20 Ultra can zoom up to 100x!

Samsung has just announced its latest flagship line, the Galaxy S20 series, at the recent Unpacked 2020 event. As with Samsung’s previous Galaxy S phones, the S20 series is packed with lots of cutting-edge features; this year’s flagship lineup packs innovative cameras that can capture 8k resolution videos, as well as high-res displays with 120Hz refresh rates.

Similar to the S10 series last year, the S20 line consists of three phones. Instead of having a budget “e” version though, the S20 series has a new “Ultra” variant, meaning that the three phones in the lineup being the S20, S20+, and the S20 Ultra.

Galaxy S20

The Galaxy S20 is the base model in Samsung’s flagship line, but make no mistake, this phone still packs a ton of features. The S20 comes with a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display with a QHD+ display that has a 120Hz refresh rate. The base S20 also packs Samsung’s latest flagship processor, the Exynos 990, and it’s coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card). Other features include an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner, IP68 water and dust resistance, and a 4,000mAh battery.

For its shooters, the S20 packs a triple camera setup consisting of a 12MP wide, a 12MP ultra wide, and a 64MP telephoto lens with 3x lossless zoom (up to 30x digital zoom). At the front, the S20 has a 10MP selfie cam.

Galaxy S20+

The S20+ is similar to the S20 in terms of specs, though there are some differences. The main difference being that the S20+ has a larger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with the same QHD+ resolution and 120Hz display. The + model also has a 4,500mAh battery, 500 bigger than the base S20.

The S20+’s rear camera setup is also almost exactly the same as the S20, but it has an extra 3D ToF sensor, making the S20+ a quad-camera smartphone.

Galaxy S20 Ultra

While the previous two phones are quite impressive already, the S20 Ultra is definitely the stand-out in the series. The phone is the largest of the three with its 6.9-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display, and it also has the biggest battery to boot at 5,000mAh.

The most impressive thing about it isn’t the size though, it’s the cameras. The S20 Ultra packs a quad camera setup that features a whopping 108MP main camera, a 12MP rear camera, a 3D ToF sensor, and a 48MP “Space Zoom” telephoto lens. The telephoto shooter on the Ultra may have a lower megapixel count compared to the S20/S20+, but it has the longest lossless zoom at 10x; in fact, it can even zoom digitally up to 100x!

The Galaxy S20 series is available for pre-order from February 12-25, 2020 in the Philippines. The phones will then release on March 6, 2020.
