OPPO A74 Impressions | Premium Features Made Accessible

OPPO is set to launch the A74 in the Philippines, and in our OPPO A74 impressions, we think that it packs lots of nice and premium features.

ONE Store Beta Now Available

Following the recent launch of the A94, OPPO is set to release another smartphone in the Philippines–the OPPO A74. This phone is similar to the A94 in many ways, though given that it has a lower number, we expect this to be an even more affordable mid-range offering.

Even if we think it’s going to be slightly more affordable than the PHP 13,999-priced A94, in our OPPO A74 impressions, we found that it still packs lots of premium features that make it punch above its segment.

First off though, let’s take a look at the design. For the A74, OPPO went with a glossy design for its latest smartphone, and it looks quite nice, especially when light hits the back. Though the trade-off to get this look is that the phone is a major fingerprint magnet; good thing the A74 comes with a clear case inside the box.

Moving to the front, we have the phone’s 6.43-inch AMOLED display. Yes, this phone packs an AMOLED screen, meaning it should be an excellent partner for binge-watching as it should be able to output vibrant colors. Of course, we haven’t tested it out yet, so you’ll have to watch out for our full review to find out how good the screen actually is.

As for the design of the screen, we quite like it! Firstly, the display has minimal bezels, making for a high-end look. Then there’s the small holepunch notch at the top left–a design we much prefer over having a notch on the middle as having it on the top left is less distracting, especially when watching content in full screen.

For its cameras, the A74 packs a 48 MP f/1.7 + 2 MP, f/2.4 macro + 2 MP f/2.4 depth sensor triple rear camera setup, as well as a 16MP selfie shooter at the front. These cameras are pretty nice on paper, though we have yet to test them out to see how great they are at capturing photos. And one thing to note is that the A74 does not have an ultra-wide camera; a bit of a surprise given that even budget phones today usually have ultra-wide shooters.

The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 662 processor, a slightly upgraded version of the venerable Snapdragon 660 processor. This chipset is then complemented by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (that’s expandable via microSD) Given our experience with the processor family, we expect the A74 to be a fairly capable gaming device, especially for popular games such as Mobile Legends, Wild Rift, and more. As for more demanding titles, we’ll have to test the phone out to see how well it’ll hold up.

As for the rest of the features, the A74 has an in-display finerprint scanner, a USB Type-C port, and a 5,000mAh battery. The phone also supports 33W fast charging, meaning it should charge up to 54% in just 30 minutes.

So what do we think here in our OPPO A74 impressions? Well, we’re quite interested in this new phone from OPPO given its range of premium features. Of course, before we can give our final verdict, we’ll have to test it out a bit more. Plus, we need to find out how much it actually costs. Though if it is priced right, the OPPO A74 has all the makings of a worthy mid-range option.
