As if we didn’t have enough Junji Ito media to consume already, we get yet another surprise in the form of cosplay. With an anime series in the works, I think it’s important that we’re constantly reminded of the grotesque masterpieces that only the master himself can create.

Y’all remember Tomie, right? Nice girl. Malevolent entity. Overall, kind of a cool person to hang out with. How to best describe her?

Bewitching, sure. Horribly terrifying and grotesque? Well, we have cosplayer Alma Kwok to showcase that particular side of her.

Now, that’s a Junji Ito cosplay good enough to send shivers down your spine!

This happened at the Yokohama Anime Festival where Hong Kong’s specialty makeup lecturer Gary Chan demonstrated a series of makeup techniques. One of which was the iconic ‘Tomie’ by Junji Ito.

For those unaware, Tomie follows titular character Tomie Kawakami, a beautiful young girl identified by a beauty mark under her left eye which drives suitors to madness, often resulting in her own death. However, due to a mysterious power of regeneration, she always comes back for revenge–in a grotesque fashion.
