Guerilla Games recently announced that Horizon Forbidden West has now sold over 8 million units since its launch last year.
Specifically, Guerilla Games Studio Director Jan-Bart van Beek shared info about the game’s sales numbers in a PlayStation Blog post that celebrates the studio’s 20th anniversary.
There, it was revealed that Horizon Forbidden West has sold 8.4 million units globally on the PS5 and PS4. It was also revealed that the Horizon franchise as a whole has sold 32.7 million units, making it one of PlayStation’s highest-selling franchises.
In the post, the studio’s director also shared that the Horizon series’ popularity was helped in part by PlayStation Plus and the Play at Home initiative in 2020.
Thanks to the series’ success, Guerilla Games is pretty much known by most PlayStation players now as the Horizon studio. Though Guerilla has long been making games for PlayStation. In fact, prior to Horizon, the studio was best known for the Killzone FPS series.
The Dutch studio also has an interesting connection with Kojima Productions. This is because Guerilla’s Decima engine is also the same engine used in Death Stranding.
Guerilla Games’ most recent release is the Burning Shores DLC for Horizon Forbidden West. Recently, it was also confirmed that the studio is working on the third Horizon game.
