At long last, Season 1 of Diablo 4 is revealed to be called the Season of the Malignant. Here’s everything you need to know about the first major content update that’s bringing us all back to saving Sanctuary from evil once again.
It’s been a long time coming for Diablo 4’s Season 1 release. There’s been a ton of speculation and anticipation for what’s next in Blizzard’s major 2023 hit. A video was posted on the official Diablo Twitter account revealing that Season 1 of Diablo 4 is titled the Season of the Malignant. Players were given a sneak peek of the narrative but more importantly, a release date was officially given. Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant will start on July 20, 2023.

Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant Details
The story contains a brand new questline that features a mysterious form of Lilith’s corruption spreading throughout Sanctuary. In true ARPG fashion, you are the hero that stands as the world’s only hope to survive.
Season of the Malignant will bring in an all-new boss battle with Varshan the Consumed. You’ll be encountering new enemy types in the form of Malignant Monsters that when killed, will be dropping Malignant Hearts. These will grant you with over 30 new Malignant Powers to play around with. These have the potential to be one of the most powerful factors of your Diablo 4 build.
There will be 6 new Unique items to discover and 7 new Legendary aspects to earn for all classes. The Diablo 4 grind will only continue to grip you until you don’t realize that the sun is rising again.
For those who don’t want to create a seasonal character to partake in Season of the Malignant, there will be new legendary items that will be available for those in the Eternal (or Standard) Realm as early as July 18.
Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant Battle Pass and Rewards
While Season of the Malignant will be accessible for all players of Diablo 4, a Battle Pass system will be introduced which will have both free and premium Tiers.
Completing chapters of the season will reward players with Legendary aspects, a Mastery Title, and a Scroll of Amnesia, which provides a free Skill Tree and Paragon Board reset. Additionally, you can also earn extra favor in leveling up the Battle Pass along the way.
Progressing through the 27 Free Tiers and 63 Premium Tiers will reward players with a bunch of new armor and weapons cosmetics, Mount Trophies, emotes, Platinum, and Smoldering Ashes that can be used to upgrade all your seasonal characters with increased XP, better chances for rare materials when salvaging items, and more.
Those who purchased the Diablo 4 Ultimate Edition will have instant access to Season of the Malignant’s Accelerated Battle Pass which contains 20 Tier skips.
