Samsung reveals the Galaxy Z Flip5 featuring a striking new cover dispaly
Samsung's new Z Flip has a much larger cover screen along with a range of improvements.
At the latest Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip5, the latest flip-phone foldable with a new cover display. This new foldable was unveiled alongside the new Z Fold5.
While the Z Fold5 looks almost exactly like the previous generation model, the Z Flip5 looks quite different from its predecessor. This is thanks to the much larger 3.4-inch cover display on the new Flip phone that now takes up most of the cover area. For comparison, previous models only had a tiny cover display.
Thanks to this, the phone’s cover screen is now more functional, not to mention that it’s even better to view notifications on. Though take note that it’s still not on the level of the cover screen on the Z Fold5 as the cover display on the Flip5 still only supports widgets (albeit bigger than the previous models). This means if you want to actually access apps, you’ll still need to unfold the phone.
Speaking of unfolding, the Z Fold5 has a much-improved hinge which Samsung dubs the “Double Rail Design.” This new hinge design makes the phone flatter when folded instead of having a noticeable gap, giving it a more seamless look.
Looks aside, the hinge is also more durable now according to Samsung. Specifically, the hinge is rated for for 200,000 folds. Plus, the new design should make it more resistant to accidental drops.
For its display, the phone has a large 6.7-inch AMOLED main screen that, from what we’ve seen, shouldn’t disappoint with its vibrant colors and brightness.
Of course, the phone still has a noticeable crease when viewed at an angle, but it should be a bit less noticeable compared to previous generation models.
Powering the phone is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, meaning it should be a capable phone for gaming and productivity. Based on our experience, the processor should also be quite efficient, so it should have decent to good battery life.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 comes in Mint, Graphite, Cream, and Lavender colors. It is priced in the Philippines at PHP 64,990 for the 256GB variant and PHP 71,990 for the 512GB variant.
