BlizzCon 2023: New WoW expansions, next Overwatch 2 hero, and more revealed

Here are the biggest reveals from Blizzcon 2023!

BlizzCon 2023 saw lots of big announcements for Blizzard’s roster of titles, including expansions for WoW and Diablo IV, as well as the next Overwatch 2 hero.

Of course, BlizzCon featured a lot of exciting events for fans, including a special performance by LE SSERAFIM as part of the group’s Overwatch 2 collab. For most fans though, the biggest highlights of the event are the announcements of expansions and other upcoming game content.

So, in case you missed the event’s livestreams, here’s a quick rundown of the major reveals at BlizzCon 2023, including the new expansion for Blizzard’s big titles:

World of Warcraft: The War Within Announced

Perhaps the highlight of the event for many is World of Warcraft: The War Within. This upcoming expansion was announced with an official cinematic, and it is the first installment in The Worldsoul Saga — the first multi-part expansion saga for the game that’s said to be an “ambitious creative endeavor for the Warcraft universe.

In this expansion, players will travel to the new continent of Khaz Algar as an ancient civilization rises to power deep beneath the surface of the planet. It will be released in 2024.

Two WoW expansions announced and more

Following The War Withing, players can also expect World of Warcraft: Midnight and World of Warcraft: The Last Titan, the next two expansions in the Worldsoul saga. 

Along with these two expansions, Warcraft Rumble was also finally released on iOS and Android during BlizzCon. Finally, World of Warcraft Classic will begin the Season of Discovery where players will be able to start a fresh adventure. Plus, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic is also confirmed to release soon, complete with faster content cadence, a new difficulty level for Dungeon Group Finder after launch, and more.

Diablo IV Vessel of Hatred expansion revealed

WoW isn’t the only game getting expansions as Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred was also revealed. This expansion will be released in late 2024, and it will feature Mephisto with new plans to take over Sanctuary.

Vessel of Hatred will be set in the lush jungles of Nahantu, and it will introduce a never-before-seen class into the game.

Hearthstone Battlegrounds Duos coming in 2024

Hearthstone also got some love at BlizzCon 2023 as Battlegrounds Duos was revealed to come in 2024. In this mode, two players can partner up and strategize together, sharing cards, health, and resources.

Overwatch 2 new hero Mauga revealed

Finally, Blizzard revealed Mauga, the next Overwatch 2 tank hero. Players can try Mauga out in the limited-time trial this weekend, ahead of his release in Season 8.

On top of this, the new Clash PvP game mode was also revealed. Here, players will visit the new Hanaoka map which is inspired by the Hanamura map.
