Death Stranding movie announced by A24 and Kojima Productions

The studio behind Everything Everywhere All At Once and Hereditary will work on the Death Stranding movie!

Fresh after revealing OD at The Game Awards, Hideo Kojima revealed that a Death Stranding movie is currently in the works in partnership with the renowned studio A24.

Details about the project were shared by Kojima Production recently. In their official post, Kojima shared a statement that gave fans a bit of an idea of what to expect:

“A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my own work. Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last 8 years. Now, we are making a Death Stranding movie together. There are a lot of “game adaptation films” out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.”

Based on what Kojima said, the upcoming Death Stranding movie by A24 will not be a 1:1 adaptation of the game. This makes sense given that a game of that scale will be nigh impossible to translate into a 2-3 hour film.

Fans of Kojima shouldn’t be too surprised about this development. After all, Kojima has shared a few months ago some images of his visit to A24.

Interestingly, a Death Stranding movie has been announced last year in collaboration with Hammerstone Studios. Though it’s not clear if this is the same project or if these will be totally different works.
