Ahead of its premiere next week, Netflix shared the official trailer for the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series, and it features many popular characters from the series.

While this isn’t the first time that Netflix gave us a look at Yu Yu Hakusho, this new trailer is our best look yet at it as it shows off a lot of new fight scenes. These include a major fight where Yusuke, Hiei, Kurama, and Kuwabara against Younger Toguro.

Based on the trailer, it seems that Netflix and ROBOT Productions put in a lot of effort (and a whole load of budget) for this series as there’s a lots of detailed CGI in the fight scenes.

“To what extent CGI-characters can be shown close-up depends on the distance from the camera, whether there’s dialogue, and the facial expression,” said visual effects director Tomofumi Akahane. “With Scanline VFX on board, we were able to reach higher than any other Japanese title and achieve a quality where the average viewer won’t be able to tell that CGI is actually CGI.”

Netflix also revealed that the live-action show will only have five episodes. This is interesting as the trailer shows that Younger Toguro and his allies are already there. Thus, it should mean that the series will have some major changes to the original anime.

The Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series will be released worldwide exclusively on Netflix on December 14, 2023.
