Elden Ring ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ DLC still in development, but no release date yet

Elden Ring fans may have to wait a while longer for the game's highly anticipated expansion.

ONE Store Beta Now Available

It has been nearly a year since the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC was revealed, and fans will have to wait a bit longer for its release.

Since the DLC was announced back in February last year, FromSoftware has not shared any new information on Shadow of the Erdtree. A new update came via FromSoftware’s latest financial report though.

There, it’s stated that FromSoftware is still developing the DLC, though there’s no release date yet. On the one hand, this isn’t the best news for many Elden Ring fans as it should mean a longer wait. Meanwhile, there’s still something positive to be taken here, and that’s the fact that the DLC is still being worked on and isn’t going to be canceled.

Most FromSoftware Souls games get at least one big DLC. For instance, Dark Souls 3 got The Ashes of Ariandel and The Ringed City while Bloodborne got The Old Hunters. Sekiro is an exception as it did not get a major expansion, though it did at least receive a free update which features a boss rush mode.

The Souls game DLCs are usually released within a year, though that isn’t the case with Elden Ring as it’s nearly two years since the game’s release. Given this, many fans are already going crazy over the wait, with others (especially on the Elden Ring subreddit) scouring the game’s updates for crumbs of DLC info.

The wait for the DLC isn’t too surprising though given the base game’s scale. After all, FromSoftware is likely going to add a big new area which isn’t an easy task. There’s also the fact that the game’s initial announcement and proper gameplay trailer had a two-year gap.

Of course, given the lengthy gap between the game’s launch and DLC, it’ll be interesting to see just how big of an expansion Shadow of the Erdtree will be. The hope is that more info will be revealed this month, with a possible launch later this year.
