Ubisoft reveals Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailer and Collector’s Edition

The first Assassin's Creed in Japan is set in the Sengoku Period and follows the shinobi Naoe and the first black samurai Yasuke.

Initially revealed back in 2022 as Codename Red, Ubisoft finally shared the first trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows and unveiled its Collector’s Edition.

As with other mainline Assassin’s Creed games, Shadows’ premiere trailer is a mostly cinematic affair with no proper gameplay footage. Still, it’s a must-see for fans as it sets up what players can expect. Not to mention that an Assassin’s Creed game in Japan has been requested for years now.

Check out the trailer here:

So, what is Shadows about? This game is set in 16th century Japan during the Sengoku Period (or the Warring States Period). It will follow the shinobi Naoe from the Iga Province, and the samurai Yasuke who is a real historical figure and best known as the first black samurai.

Given that the player characters include a shinobi and a samurai, the game will feature two playstyles with unique progression paths for each. As expected, Naoe’s kit is focused on stealth while Yasuke prefers straight-up combat.

Also revealed is the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Collector’s Edition which will include the following:

  • Base game
  • Season Pass
  • Ultimate Pack
    • Sekiryu Character Pack (Naoe and Yasuke outfit and weapon, trinket and mount)
    • Sekiryu Hideout Pack
    • 5 Skill points
    • Red and black photo mode filter
  • 3 days early access to the game.
  • Steelbook
  • World map
  • Naoe & Yasuke Figurine
  • Life-size Naoe’s Katana Tsuba
  • Wall Creed Scroll
  • 84 page collector’s artbook
  • 2 sumi-e lithographs

There’s also the Ultimate Edition will include all the digital content that’s part of the Collector’s Edition.

Finally, there’s the  Gold Edition which will include the base game, the Season Pass and 3 days early access. Of course, there’s also the Standard Edition which only includes the base game.

For now, there’s no word yet on a release date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, though Ubisoft revealed that the first gameplay trailer will be shared in June.
