Paul Rudd stars in new Nintendo Switch 2 ad featuring Mario Kart World

This is also a reference to an old 90s ad starring Rudd.

With the release of the new console just months away, Nintendo shared a new commercial for the Switch 2 featuring Paul Rudd playing Mario Kart World with a group of friends.

As is the case with any new major console release, the Switch 2’s upcoming launch is something that many gamers across the world are excited about. While most gamers who follow gaming news should already know that the next Switch is coming soon, that doesn’t mean Nintendo won’t promote the console to mass audiences. As such, this new Paul Rudd Switch 2 commercial makes a lot of sense.

More than Rudd’s star power though (which is pretty high given his role in the MCU), this commercial is actually a reference to an old ad from the 90s. This old commercial featured Paul Rudd playing the SNES, and it was recently uploaded online by Nintendo of America.

In the Switch 2 commercial, Rudd references his old promo piece for the SNES as he dons almost the exact same outfit, complete with a matching hairstyle.

This new commercial isn’t a simple recreation of the old 90s ad though. Instead, this video showcases the new Mario Kart World, along with the Switch 2’s GameChat feature which promises to enhance online play with friends as you can see them via an online video call-style interface.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in the US and other select regions on June 5, 2025. Meanwhile, the console will be released in the Philippines and the rest of SEA sometime between July and September 2025.
