Sonic X Shadow Generations is coming to the Switch 2 on launch day

The Switch 2's launch lineup is looking pretty good.

SEGA recently announced that Sonic X Shadow Generations will be released on the Switch 2 as part of the console’s launch lineup.

Unlike other upcoming Switch 2 releases like Yakuza 0, Sonic X Shadow Generations getting a Switch 2 launch is a bit of a surprise. After all, the game has been released on the first Nintendo Switch, meaning players can run this version on the Switch 2 via backwards compatibility.

SEGA didn’t share much about the Switch 2 version, though it did confirm that the game will feature improved graphics. As such, we expect the Switch 2 version of the game to run at a higher resolution with better textures, making for an experience that should be closer to the PS5 and Series X|S versions.

According to SEGA, Sonic X Shadow Generations will be released on the Switch 2 on the console’s launch day. This means players in the US, Japan, and other select countries/regions will be able to get the game on June 5, 2025.

Meanwhile, players in Southeast Asia will only be able to get the game in the following months. After all, Nintendo announced that the Switch 2’s release in the Philippines and other SEA countries will be delayed, with an expected launch date set between July and September 2025.
