Ghost of Yotei State of Play shows off new gameplay and limited-edition PS5 console

There's also a limited-edition Ghost of Yotei DualSense controller.

In the latest State of Play stream, Sucker Punch Productions showed off new Ghost of Yotei gameplay along with a limited-edition PS5.

As promised, this showcase featured nearly 20 minutes of new Ghost of Yotei gameplay footage, and it highlights the game’s beautiful Hokkaido setting. More info about the game’s story was also mentioned, alongside some of the new weapons players can use in Atsu’s journey.

Based on what we’ve seen, Ghost of Yote seems to be a refinement of Tsushima instead of being a massive evolution. This should be good news for players who loved Tsushima and want an experience that’s similar to it.

What we didn’t expect to see in this new game from Sucker Punch is the addition of two more filmmaker-inspired modes. Aside from the Kurosawa Mode which makes a return, the game will also feature a Miike mode, inspired by 13 Assassins director, Takashi Miike. This mode This mode brings the camera closer, and adds more blood and mud effects.

What’s more exciting for us is the Watanabe Mode made in partnership with Shinichiro Watanabe, the director of Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop. The mode aims to capture a similar vibe to Samurai Champloo as it features lo-fi tracks selected by Watanabe himself during exploration and combat.

Another unexpected reveal is the special edition Ghost of Yotei PS5 console, along with console covers for the Pro and Slim models. Plus, there’s also limited edition DualSense controller. These items feature an off-white color, with kintsugi-inspired gold design elements that include a depiction of Mount Yotei and the hand-drawn icons that Atsu marks on her map.

Given their designs, these goodies should be a great match for the Collector’s Edition, which comes with a replica of Atsu’s mask (which also sports a similar color scheme).

Ghost of Yotei will launch exclusively on the PS5 on October 2, 2025.
