Thunderbolts* aka The New Avengers will stream on Disney+ later this month

Great news for those who missed its theatrical run!

Following its theatrical run a few months ago, Marvel’s Thunderbolts* aka The New Avengers will stream on Disney+ later this month.

For those who haven’t been following the MCU recently, or for those who missed Thunderbolts*, they may be wondering why it’s also called The New Avengers. Well, Marvel basically has two titles for this movie. Of course, the “New Avengers” title is a pretty big spoiler by itself, but don’t worry, this ragtag bunch isn’t exactly the replacement for the OG Avengers. That’s not to say that they won’t matter in the long run as these characters will return in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday movie.

Consisting of Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker, the Thunderbolts is a team-up of superhero rejects who come together in an unexpected way. Even though this may seem like an odd group, the movie does go about their coming together in a good way, enough that it has gotten positive reviews from critics, with the movie having an 88% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Most of the characters here have appeared in other MCU Disney+ shows and movies, but don’t worry as this is still easy to follow as a standalone movie. Of course, its story would land a bit more strongly if you’ve seen the MCU projects like Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow.

Thunderbolts* or The New Avengers will be streamed exclusively on Disney+ beginning August 27, 2025.
