Silent Hill f’s Konatsu Kato makes history at The Game Awards 2025

She is the first actress with a non-English-speaking role to be nominated.

The Game Awards 2025 nominees are in, and Konatsu Kato, the actress of Hinako Shimizu in Silent Hill f, was nominated in the Best Performance category.

In case you missed it, the complete list of Game Awards 2025 nominees has just been revealed, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 made history with 12 nominations – the most in Game Awards history. In fact, the Best Performance category alone features three actors from Expedition 33.

The complete Best Performance nominees include:

  • Ben Starr, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
  • Charlie Cox, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
  • Erika Ishii, Ghost of Yōtei
  • Jennifer English, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
  • Konatsu Kato, Silent Hill f
  • Troy Baker, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Aside from Expedition 33, Konatsu Kato being nominated for her role as Hinako in Silent Hill f is also historic for The Game Awards. That’s because Kato is the first actress to be nominated for Best Performance with a role that’s not in English. The closest we got was Daisuke Tsuji as Jin Sakai in Ghost of Tsushima, though Tsuji voiced Jin in English.

Since the Game Awards began back in 2014, all the nominees have been English-language performances. This makes sense given that The Game Awards is an American event, with jury members and audiences being primarily English speakers.

Kato being nominated is a testament to her performance in Silent Hill f, as it was great enough to transcend language barriers (which we’re sure players can attest). Hopefully, this also opens the door for future non-English language nominees in the future Game Awards events.

The Game Awards 2025 is happening on December 11 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, and it will be streamed live on YouTube, Twitch, and Prime Video.
