Resident Evil Veronica is coming in 2027, and it’s shaping up to be the best RE Remake yet

We already can't wait to see more!

One of the biggest reveals at Summer Game Fest 2026 was Resident Evil Veronica, the Code Veronica remake which is confirmed to launch on PC and consoles in 2027.

As it has just been a few months since the launch of Resident Evil Requiem, the reveal of Veronica at this year’s SGF came as a bit of a surprise to many, at least in terms of how early it was revealed. After all, a Code Veronica remake has been hinted at in RE9, not to mention that some reliable insiders have stated that this was the next main project for the franchise.

While the trailer doesn’t show off gameplay, it does feature some gorgeous visuals courtesy of the RE Engine. Plus, we also got a look at Claire’s updated style in the remake. You can check out the reveal trailer here:

Story-wise, this Code Veronica remake promises to be true to the original, at least, based on the details that have been shared on the RE Games X account. For gameplay, though, we should expect some big updates, as Capcom stated that RE Veronica will “introduce modernized gameplay with a chilling level of realism designed to push survival horror to new heights.”

Capcom has been on an incredible run with Resident Evil since RE7 came out in 2017. After all, aside from the new mainline installments, which are all great, we’ve also enjoyed incredible remakes of RE2 and RE4. In fact, we think the RE2 and 4 Remakes are among the best games in the series ever.

As such, we have incredibly high hopes for RE Veronica. While we can’t say for certain if it will be better than the RE2 and 4 Remakes, we already expect it to be the best “remake” in terms of updating the original. The OG RE2 and RE4 are still great games in their own right, but Code Veronica has noticeably aged when it comes to certain mechanics. Thus, this remake should give it the update that it deserves, especially as Code Veronica is a key part of the overall Resident Evil storyline.

Resident Evil Veronica will be released in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC. For now, there’s no word on a specific release date. Fingers crossed that it launches in early to mid next year.
