The Summer 2026 anime season begins soon, and ahead of its start, we got to watch the first episode of The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System.
It’s one of those shows with a title that’s quite a mouthful, and as you probably expect already, this is another isekai anime where the protagonist is reborn into a fantasy world that’s based on an MMORPG that he played in his previous life. Shows like this are a dime a dozen, but the show’s visuals do make it stand out a bit.
[NOTE: There are minor spoilers for Episode 1 in this article.]
Before getting into how it looks, let’s first talk about the story. The Exiled Heavy Knight follows Elymas Edvaughn, the son of a renowned family in this fantasy world. We’re not given much info about the protagonist’s previous life, as he also doesn’t know much about it. He does know that he played an MMO before, and that his favorite class is the Heavy Knight. This class seems weak at the start, but it’s actually the most broken class in the game.
Sadly for Elymas, the people in the fantasy world don’t know that, as they all consider the Heavy Knight to be a failure of a class. So, during a ritual where he is bestowed a class, his father is hoping that he will become a Master Swordsman. When he gets the Heavy Knight Class, Elymas is delighted, though his father sees this as a disgrace, and so he is promptly disowned.
In the second half of the first episode, Elymas ventures out and faces off against some weak opponents. Even though he just started out, he shows just how powerful the Heavy Knight class can be.
Aside from setting up the premise, the first episode didn’t exactly give much away regarding Elymas’ upcoming journey. If you’ve seen isekai MMO anime shows before, the trajectory of this series should already be quite clear. As such, The Exiled Heavy Knight isn’t exactly a fresh take on an isekai anime.
What is quite striking about the show is its visuals. Even without knowing much about the show’s production before watching the first episode, it was already clear to me that this is a GoHands production.
For those unfamiliar, GoHands is an anime studio that has worked on shows such as Momentary Lily and The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses. The studio’s work is best known for its hyper-stylized look, which has become quite divisive among anime fans. Essentially, a GoHands-produced anime has intense and vibrant colors, along with tons of movement and unusual angles.
Admittedly, I’m not the biggest fan of the GoHands house style, as I found the visuals on The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses to be distracting (and almost nauseating at times). For their latest show, the studio continues to employ its signature style, though it feels slightly toned down here. Of course, that can also be because The Exiled Heavy Knight Episode 1 didn’t feature massive fight scenes.
The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System – Initial Verdict

We can’t say for certain yet how The Exiled Heavy Knight will pan out, but from the first episode, it seems to be a fairly typical isekai MMO series that sets itself apart courtesy of its unique visuals. As such, if you’re a fan of shows like these and like (or are at least interested) in the look of GoHands shows, this may be worth a watch.
The Exiled Heavy Knight Episode 1 will be streamed on Crunchyroll on July 2, 2026.
