OPPO unveils new OPPO Air Glass 3 at MWC 2024

The future of Augmented and Mixed Realities is upon us -- OPPO just showcased its OPPO Air Glass 3 at MWC 2024.

ONE Store Beta Now Available

Announced at the Mobile World Congress, OPPO unveiled the 3rd iteration of their tech eyewear device, the OPPO Air Glass 3. If you rewind the clock 3 years back, we checked out the first OPPO Air Glass last on our YouTube Channel. The design back then was a bit clunky and cumbersome and have very limited usage.

A few years later (and a whole lot of tech advancement across industries) and we’re greeted with what seems like the sleekest application to a visual Ai-supported smartglasses.

AI (or Artificial Intelligence) is the big buzzword for this year’s MWC (we also would think it’s the biggest buzzword for the tech industry as a whole this year). With this, ahead of the event in MWC,  OPPO also announced the establishment of the OPPO AI Center and released the OPPO AI Smartphone White Paper, marking a new era in which Smartphones transition to AI Smartphones.

The concerted AI development of the brand helps create a more fluid and naturalistic experience of the wearer for the OPPO Air Glass 3. Weighing only just about 50 grams, the smartglasses offers a self-developed resin waveguide with a refractive index of 1.70, a display brightness uniformity of more than 50%, and a peak eye brightness of more than 1,000 nits. Together, these ensure the OPPO Air Glass 3 provides a wearing experience that is close to that of a regular pair of glasses while also providing the best full-color display of its kind. Form-factor-wise, it shouldn’t deviate from wearing any other eyeglasses.

So, how does it work? The OPPO Air Glass 3 supposedly connects to OPPO’s AndesGPT model via a smartphone, providing a new burdenless AI experience. Remember the huge Data Center we saw last year when we went to Shenzhen, China? We’re guessing that’s where the computational AI is housed and accessed. In fact, the OPPO Air Glass 3 is somewhat a convergence of everything we saw during out trip — from the XR zone experience (mixed reality), to the clunky goggles, the Air Glass 3 is an elegant finished product that potentially can go out to market already.

Thanks to its ability to understand various data types, including text, images, video, and audio, multimodal AI technology is able to process and interpret more complex user scenarios, unlocking new potential in user interactions, such as voice and visual.

The OPPO Air Glass 3 also supports touch interaction, which can be used to easily control functions such as music playback, voice calls, information display, color image browsing, and more. The glasses also feature reverse sound field technology, an open acoustic design with four microphones, and other innovations that improve noise isolation to deliver high audio quality and enhanced privacy protection.

While we’ve seen the rise of smartglasses and the power of AR/ XR intertwined with Ai, applications are still it its nascent stages and it’s going to take a while before we see rapid adoption. That being said, we’re only looking at months to a few years before we truly get perfected versions of state-of-the-art smartglasses that will help streamline and enhance our daily lives further.
