Grand Theft Auto VI delayed to May 2026

On the bright side, the game at least has a release date now.

While fans were hoping for its launch this year, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed to 2026.

It has been over a year since the game’s trailer was shared, and since then, Rockstar Games hasn’t shared any new info about the highly anticipated title. The trailer stated that the game will launch later in 2025. While many fans were expecting it to be delayed (as is the case with Rockstar’s other games), some were still hoping that the game would indeed come out later this year.

Following 2K’s announcement of Borderlands 4’s launch being moved earlier, some fans believed that this was to clear the way for GTA VI. After all, Take-Two Interactive owns Rockstar and 2K.

Sadly, Borderlands 4’s new release wasn’t related. That’s because Rockstar Games today announced that Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed to May next year.

Specifically, the game is now set to launch on May 26, 2026. Regarding the delay, Rockstar Games shared the following statement:

Hi everyone,

Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.

We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.

With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.

Sincerely,
Rockstar Games

It’s a shame that the wait for GTA VI has become quite a bit longer. After all, GTA VI has a lot of excitement and hype, enough that it’s likely to become one of the biggest (if not the biggest) video game launches of all time.

On the bright side, the game at least has a release date now. Fingers crossed that this new launch date won’t be moved though.
