Solo Leveling live-action series to star Byeon Woo-seok as Sung Jin-woo

Fingers crossed Netflix pulls of this live-action adaptation.

Netflix today announced that Korean actor Byeon Woo-seok will star as Sung Jin-woo in the upcoming Solo Leveling live-action series.

We’ve seen plenty of anime live-action adaptations over the years, though this upcoming project is probably one of the most exciting for many anime fans. After all, Solo Leveling is easily one of the most popular action anime right now. Recently, the show took home Anime of the Year at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

While the live-action adaptation has been in the works for some time now, we’ve still yet to see a trailer or even an image on set. At least, we know now that work on the series continues, with Netflix revealing that Byeon Woo-seok will play the Solo Leveling live-action show’s protagonist. For those unfamiliar, Byeon is best known for his roles in popular titles like 20th Century Girl and Lovely Runner.

If you watch anime, chances are that you’ve at least seen clips of Solo Leveling, even if you haven’t watched it yet. In case you haven’t though, the series’ premise is described as:

Solo Leveling follows Sung Jin-woo, an E-rank Hunter — the lowest tier — who gains extraordinary abilities after a near-death experience. As he levels up, he becomes humanity’s unexpected hope, defending against monstrous threats emerging from beyond the mysterious Gates.

While we’ll have to wait a bit longer for more news on the series, you can watch the first two seasons of the Solo Leveling anime on Netflix if you’re in the Philippines and other select Asian countries. Meanwhile, for the rest of the world, the series is streaming on Crunchyroll.
