SM Cinema recently announced its new partnership with CJ 4DPLEX to bring the first-ever 270-Degree Panoramic SCREENX Auditorium to the PH.
To be exact, it was revealed that, as part of the partnership, CJ 4DPLEX will bring the first SCREENX cinema in the Philippines to SM Mall of Asia. This mall being chosen shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, especially as MOA is one of SM’s flagship malls, not to mention that the mall was also chosen as the location of the country’s first IMAX theater nearly two decades ago.
For those unfamiliar, SCREENX is a unique type of cinema that features a 270-degree panoramic screen. Essentially, the screen isn’t only at the front of viewers, but also extends on the left and right walls, making for a more immersive viewing experience. In a way, we imagine this effect to be similar to gaming on a triple-monitor setup, but on a much larger scale.
We’re also unsure if screenings here will stretch out the image, though it’s likely that specific SCREENX versions of blockbuster movies will be made for this format. As such, we’re definitely interested in experiencing a screening in this cinema when it eventually opens.

Regarding the upcoming SCREENX cinema, Steven T. Tan, President of SM Supermalls said: “We are proud to bring SCREENX to the Philippines through our partnership with CJ 4DPLEX. At SM Cinema, we continue to push the boundaries of entertainment by introducing world-class innovations that elevate the moviegoing experience for our customers.”
For now, there’s no word yet on when this 270-degree panoramic cinema will open, though more info should be shared soon.
