TOHO animation recently shared the first trailer for The Apothecary Diaries: The Movie, giving us not only a new look at the film, but also confirmation of its release date.
In case you missed it, Season 2 of the Apothecary Diaries aired during the first half of 2025, and then in October, a third season was announced. This comes as no surprise, given how popular the series is, even back during Season 1. Alongside a new season (which premieres in October 2026), a new anime film project was also announced. At the time, it was confirmed that the anime film will be released in December 2026, and will feature an all-new story by series creator, Natsu Hyuga.
Finally, we have more details about the movie, along with its first trailer. You can check it out here:
While the film is simply titled “The Apothecary Diaries: The Movie” in the trailer’s English version, its Japanse titles is “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bohi no Hiho” (which translates to “The Apothecary Diaries: The Deceased Empress’ Treasure” in English).
More details were also revealed on the Apothecary Diaries X account. These include a key new character named Mu Qing, who is voiced by Mariya Ise. Given that Mu Qing appears prominently in the film’s key visual, we expect this character to play a key role in the story.

Plus, we also got new visuals of Maomao and Jinshi, sporting some interesting new clothes for the film. Check them out here:
The Apothecary Diaries: The Movie will be released in Japanese cinemas on December 11, 2026. For now, there’s no word on an international release date for this film. Given the series’ popularity, we expect the film to be released in cinemas around the world either later in December or sometime in early 2027.
Before that happens, The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 will premiere in October 2026. The third season will have a split-cour release, meaning the first half will air from October to December 2026, followed by the second half in April to June 2027.
