Mortal Kombat II gets brand-new release date in the Philippines

Hopefully, we don't get any more delays.

Warner Bro. Pictures PH recently announced the new May 26 release date of the Mortal Kombat II live-action movie in the Philippines. This sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat film will be released in regular cinemas and IMAX theaters across the country.

The film was originally set to be released in October last year, though it was delayed again. This was actually the film’s second delay, as it was first revealed to premiere on May 15, 2026.

Aside from the release being moved twice, the film’s production has also encountered some setbacks outside of the production’s control. Specifically, the film started filming in June 2023, but that was paused in mid-July because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Filming resumed only in mid-November and wrapped up in late January 2024.

Even with these production and release setbacks, the future for the new Mortal Kombat film franchise still looks bright. After all, the third film in the series was confirmed to be in development back at New York Comic Con a few months ago. What’s more, the third movie will see Jeremy Slater return as the scriptwriter.

Mortal Kombat II is the sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, and it features returning director Simon McQuoid. Its premise is described as:

From New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory, “Mortal Kombat II.” This time, the fan favorite champions – now joined by Johnny Cage himself – are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.

The film stars Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
