The highly anticipated Ghost in the Shell anime from Science SARU is officially getting a worldwide release on Prime Video.
A few weeks ago, the upcoming anime got a new trailer that also revealed its July 2026 premiere. Now, the show’s streaming release on Prime Video has been announced.
In a report by Deadline, Amazon highlighted its upcoming slate of anime at the “Prime Video Presents: International Originals” event in London. There, it was confirmed that Ghost in the Shell is coming to Prime Video this July worldwide, except for Russia and China. In fact, the show will have an “early exclusive window” in Japan.
Along with this series, Amazon also put the spotlight on other anime coming to Prime Video, including the reboot of Fist of the North Star: Hokuto No Ken and From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman Season 2.
While there have been many Ghost in the Shell anime adaptations over the decades, this new one is an exciting one for many reasons. For starters, the show is being produced by Science SARU, the studio behind notable titles like Dandadan, Devilman Crybaby, and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
Then, there’s the fact that the show has a stellar staff list. The show is directed by Mokochan, an animator who worked on shows like Dandadan and Tatami Time Machine Blues. Meanwhile, the show’s script is written by Toh Enjoe, an award-winning writer who worked on Space Dandy and Godzilla Singular Point. Also part of the staff is character designer Shuhei Handa, of Little Witch Academia fame. Even the show’s title is made by Hajime Sorayama, one of Japan’s most popular artists.
To top it all off, the show is shaping up to be the most faithful adaptation of the original Ghost in the Shell manga by Masamune Shirow. Pretty much all the other Ghost in the Shell adaptations are wildly different from the look and tone of Shirow’s original work. Based on the trailer, this show should be the closest to the OG in terms of style.
For now, there’s no word on a specific release date for Ghost in the Shell, though we expect to get more details closer to its July premiere date.
