The upcoming HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro smartphone and HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 both got an exciting unveiling recently. The launch in question happened at the brand’s “Now is Your Run” global launch event in Madrid, Spain.
The Mate 80 Pro marks the return of HUAWEI’s storied Mate series, which last appeared locally two years ago. The phone centers on an AI-powered True-to-Color Camera designed for lifelike color accuracy across complex and mixed lighting conditions. Its signature Dual Space Ring design is reinforced with 2nd Gen Kunlun Glass and carries IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance ratings, combining premium aesthetics with durability. They are also introducing an industry-first SuperCool Dual Phase Change Heat Dissipation system, aimed at sustaining peak performance without thermal throttling during extended or demanding use.
The WATCH GT Runner 2, meanwhile, represents five years of development in the brand’s running watch line — the original Runner last launched in 2021. The new model is built around a 3D floating antenna architecture and an intelligent positioning algorithm that continues calculating trajectory and distance even when GPS signal is interrupted, a practical edge for runners in tunnels, dense urban areas, or mountainous terrain. An intelligent marathon mode provides one-stop race management, functioning as a wrist-based personal coach throughout a race. The watch is designed to serve both competitive athletes and casual runners alike.
Two-time Olympic champion and WATCH GT Runner global ambassador Eliud Kipchoge was present at the Madrid event, where he spoke about co-developing the product with HUAWEI. “I am passionate to share my opinions and perspectives to improve the smartwatch experience not just for elite athletes but for runners all around the world,” he said.
