It has been nearly two years since the first film’s premiere, and now, Netflix has confirmed that the live-action City Hunter 2 movie is in the works.
Netflix announced the film’s sequel today (which is also City Hunter protagonist Ryo Saeba’s birthday) via the official Netflix Japan X (formerly Twitter) account. The announcement was accompanied by the reveal of the movie’s title, which is simply “City Hunter 2.” Along with the title, Netflix also confirmed that it will stream the film exclusively worldwide sometime in 2027.
For now, there’s not much in the way of details yet regarding the movie. What we do know is that the first film’s director, Yuichi Sato, isn’t returning. Instead, this sequel will be directed by Keiichiro Shiraki (of Siren and Perfect World fame).

It may have taken a while for the sequel to be revealed, though a sequel to the 2024 City Hunter movie makes sense, considering that the film proved to be a hit, as it took the top spot in Netflix’s non-English movie ranking in the weeks after its release.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, the 2024 City Hunter movie is definitely a fun watch, as it captures the spirit of the original manga/anime well, all while giving the story and characters a more contemporary spin. Given how much we enjoyed the first movie, we’re looking forward to City Hunter 2 when it gets released on Netflix.
