The PS5 is getting a major price increase in the Philippines starting May 1

Better buy a PS5 ASAP.

After increasing prices in various countries last month, PlayStation announced a round of price increases on the PS5 for Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Details were shared on the official PlayStation Blog.

In the Philippines, the PS5 will be priced at PHP 40,032 starting May 1. For reference, the console’s original price tag is PHP 30,790. This is quite a big price increase, meaning gamers in the country may want to get a PS5 in the next three days if they’re already eyeing one.

Aside from the PS5, the PlayStation Portal will also see a price increase in Southeast Asia. Here are the new prices for the PS5 consoles and Portal in Southeast Asia:

A price increase such as this late in a console’s life cycle is quite unprecedented. After all, for pretty much every console, prices go down the older a console is. According to PlayStation, this price increase was decided given the “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.”

While PlayStation didn’t go into more specifics, it’s likely that the massive spike in RAM prices is one of the key reasons for the increase in PS5 price. The big jump in memory prices is due to the increased demand from AI data centers.

For now, it seems that memory prices will continue to be expensive. As such, expect this new PS5 price to not go down anytime soon.
