Sony Pictures recently shared the first trailer for the live-action Resident Evil movie by Zach Cregger, the director of hit horror films Weapons and Barbarian.
Unlike the previous Resident Evil movies, this new one does not feature any of the characters from the games, but it should still be true to the series’ lore. The trailer also looks quite unlike the RE games, though it does give us some peeks at the new zombies that will be featured.
You can check out the new trailer here:
To give you a better idea of what to expect, its premise is described as:
“From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.”
At first watch, the trailer doesn’t exactly give off a similar vibe to the Resident Evil games, though there are nods to series signatures, like the fact that the protagonist will need to get keys from someone. And while we didn’t see iconic Resident Evil enemies like the Licker or Tyrant, we did get a glimpse at unique (and rather horrifying) foes.
Given the director’s previous films, we’re definitely excited to see this on the big screen!
The Resident Evil movie by Zach Cregger will be released in the US on September 18, 2026. For now, there’s no word on a release date in the Philippines, though we expect it to also come out in September this year.
